of the actual recording itself, the genesis of it is on Herman Chin-Loy's Aquarius Dub (1973). a track called "Jah Jah Dub" is a sketch of the later rhythm, it was probably cut at Dynamic a year or so before. there may have been a full single related to it, i only know the cut off Aquarius Dub.

a couple of years later, Jacob Miller did "Baby I Love You So" over the tape borrowed from Chin-Loy, and Tubby mixed the dub with a Pablo melodica overdub and the rest is history.

Augustus Pablo produced / recorded 2 different takes of this riddim around 73, which I believe were recorded at the same session and the same day. Drummer was Tinlegs, bassie was Robbie. There are 2 keyboard players ( Pablo and ?) and a guitarist (Chinna?)

Both cuts have slightly different drumming and structure (lenght of verses).

These are the 2 cuts:

Take 1
( the one with the slightly confused bass player!)

this is the original Cassava Piece melodica instrumental (7" on Hot Stuff). Also used for Big Youth's Cassava Rock.

Take 2
( the best known one, the one that starts with the melodica before the drum)

This is the famous take used for Baby I Love You So / King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown, and a few more cuts.
Also, the better known Cassava Piece (included on the Original Rockers album). Slightly different melody and with chord changes. As far as I know never released as a single in the 70s.

Pablo gave a cut of the riddim to Herman Chin Loy ( this is a raw mix of the 2nd take with a clavinet overdub but no organ) that was released on the Aquarius Dub album before he released the 'Cassava Piece' single (over the 1st cut)
A mixdown (of the 2nd cut) must've been at Tubbys cause many other vocals were voiced, not really produced by Pablo. Tubbys kept many riddims of many producers for dubplates and one off mixes.
There are loads of different vocals/instrumental/mixes of each one. Earl 16 is the only artist to release 2 different vocals over both cuts of the riddim (actually he voiced 3).

Of course, a few other producers re-licked this riddim.
Some pretty good but none as good as the original ( for me anyway).
