High Time Players

Post by sonic »

In David Katz's book Solid Foundation he quotes Scientist: "The Musicians that I loved working the most was High Time Players - I could just do what I want. As a result, they got the best sound."

Did Scientist ever do a album with High Times Players dubs?

Looking through my Scientist collection I mostly see Roots Radics and sometimes The Revolutionaries.

The Roots Archive database doesn't show any.

Anyone?

You'll hear most of his dub mixes on the back of 45's from the era, many of Junjo's post 1981 productions are actually recorded with The High Times band, and not the Roots Radics.
A fantastic group, history doesn't seem to pay them the same respect as other ensembles from that era.

The Wayne Wade LP Poor and humble is one example where Scientist mixed the High Times Band.

I recall they were led by Earl Chinna Smith, but is there anything out there that talks more about the line-up / history of the High Times Players/Band?

The line up wasn't constant from what I've understood but these were the players at one point or another. Might have missed someone and some might not have been as regular as others.

'Santa' Davis - Drums
Chris Stanley - Bass
Chris Meredith - Bass
Willie Lindo - Lead Guitar
Fazal Prendergast - Guitar
Earl 'Chinna' Smith - Guitar
Bo Pee - Rhythm Guitar
Robbie Lynn - Organ
Keith Sterling - Piano
Tarzan Nelson - Keyboards
Tony Asher - Keyboards
Sky Juice - Percussion
