Avonmore Dub, any info?

Post by hans »

Hi guys,

A friend of my spinned a pretty nice dub (?) LP today.
The label and sleeve both are white - the only info is 'Avonmore Dub'.

The LP has 11 tracks, all 70's (77-79 I would say).
Track A1 - dub/instrumental with flute
Track A2 - dub with melodica
Track A3 - dub with dj (?)
Track A4 - loversrock tune with male & female singer
Track A5 - 70s soul/funk (kinda Isaac Hayes sound)
Track A6 - dub/instrumental with melodica
Track B1 - instrumental with flute, Diana Ross & The Supremes' "Stop In The Name Of Love" sometimes
Track B2 - tracks with female singer (Jenifer Lara?) Diana Ross & The Supremes' "I Second That Emotion"
Track B3 - dub with melodica
Track B4 - same dub with dj (?)
Track B5 - loversrock tune with male singer (bit Country & Western style)

We googled today and the only info we got is the name Tony King ( http://www.roots-archives.com/artist/5040 ) in combination with Avonmore Dub.

Anyone has more info about this LP?

If you can post any sample..because perhaps 'avonmore' is a wrong spelling.. or something referring to the original owner etc..

I personally think its: Avon (not an unusual last name..) - more dub.

Matrixnumber would also help..

No matrixnumber or anyother info in the vinyl.

Hi

I bought this record in Virgin Records in Oxford Street
in 1977 for £4.59(I've still got the till ticket!!).It's got "Avonmore Dub" written in felt tip on the cover but
more importantly it's got the matrix RRLP 2 etched on the run-out.I probably haven't played it for 25 years.

I've often wondered about it's origins. I hope someone can shed some light.

Cheers.

I asked about this album on rmr 10 years ago, without any success. I've never heard it called "Avonmore Dub". My copy (and also the only other copy I've seen) has "pre-release" stamped on one side of the white label. The matrix is RRLP2 and there is also EG on the runout groove, so it seems to be a UK pressing.

The 2 DJ tracks are the same DJ but I can't place him. Those 2 tracks and 2 more are all on the same rhythm but it's not a rhythm I know from anywhere else.

Hans, my copy has 12 tracks. Does your friend's really only have 11 tracks? - and no matrix?

Could be Robot records... the 12"es have matrixnumbers like this: RRS2 RRS3 etc..

Seven Leaves Records also have matrixes starting with RRLP .... (edit) but , yes , Rockers Records seems more likely . Distributed via Island Records in 1976-77

It is just checked again: 11 tracks, no matrix or other info in the vinyl it self @ JohnF - pretty interesting.
