Re: Classic " Dub Album " Sunday

Black Magic Dub! After years and years hunting this I finally managed to pick up a copy (in Stockholm as well!!!). Unplayed and wonderful. It features dubs to rhythms such as Mystic Eyes' »Reality«, Earl Cunningham's »The Gates are Open Wide« and Naggo Morris »You Want to Get I Out« (or perhaps even E. Cunninghams »Got To Know That Place«). Wonderful set but a bit curious as it seems to be quite a mix of producers and no information on who the engineer is.

It features productions from Naggo, Jammy and Junjo as far as I know. There are three dubs on it that I can't ID if anyone wants to give it a try. I've made a sample of them and uploaded to soundcloud here:
https://soundcloud.com/kalcidis/blackmagicid

The first track is rather likely from the same session as the dubs to Earl Cunningham »Don't Shoot Your Brother« and Naggo Morris »You Want to Get I Out«. So perhaps the vocals are on a Yah Congo/Third World release with Naggo in the producer seat.

The second track is over the Burial rhythm and if anyone knows of any cuts of that rhythm from '79 or '80 it would be good.

The third rhythm has a very short vocal sample (can't ID it) and some harmonica playing. I don't know too many harmonica players in reggae (and one of them frequents some boards so I'll ask him).

Incidentally kalcidis, did you know footballer Pontus Kamark of Sweden fame, was famed for being a massive fan of King Tubby and dub in general?

Back to the early days this Sunday with " The Message-Dubwise " with Prince Buster . Another one that is as basic as it gets , classic !

@ sean ... after your post I listened to The Mighty Maytones Showcase which has some good dubs on it .

@kalcidis ... no chance of finding good , rare dub albums where I live , in the sticks :(

AnorakTrev: Lovely album. It's interesting to hear those early dub albums before the format was really set. Often you have a vocal (or even more often a deejay -- guessing they were closer in regard to dub) or two in the mix of dub tracks. Thinking of albums such as Tubby's Surrounded by the Dreads at the Arena, Natty Locks Dub and more.

Sean: I had no clue. Thanks for the info. I wonder what famous people there are out there that listen to reggae (and aren't musicians themselves).

This week is an understated classic , it being " Shalom Dub " on Klik Records with King Tubby and The Aggrovators from 1975 . Basically a collection of b-side dubs , you get your monies worth with this one , as it has 16 tracks ... dub it !!

I remember this one Trev. 1970s classic, I felt it was Augustus Pablo influenced and was quite good too. The seducer dubwise,Scientist 1982,does anyone know anything about the vocal snippet on mr special? It says schoolchildren in England know i am Don Antonio, anything me sing must end in a o.....class.

Sean: Check this thread. http://bloodandfire.co.uk/db/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45919

Apparently it wasn't released in 1982 (the label supposedly has the wrong year) but more likely in the late '83 to '84 some time.

Terrific reply kalcidis, many thanks. Me mistaking don angelo's words as saying Don Antonio, probably explains why a google search of don Antonio came up with nothing!! Lol..dub duel professor and scientist is a brilliant album, like all the genuine versions of scientists kingdom releases.
