Trading

Ites People.

I am new to this forum this last week and have noticed a couple of threads where people are looking to trade.

My question is that I have several items I am looking for and have music to trade and I was wondering whether it is contravening the regulation of the website to have a kind of trading shop running via a thread.

This thread would be somewhere people could post up the list of music they are requiring and what they can trade in return. The members could then reply to eah other via PM`s

I wondered if the people who run this site could perhaps comment and give guidance on this suggestion as to whether it legal to do this or is, infact, against the rules.

If it is good to do this perhaps it could sit in the "off Topics"

Bless

Mitchell,

I am one of the people who posted this type of thread. I was trading CDs (real CDs from various labels). I did manage to trade about half the stuff and was very pleased with what i received in return. There is nothing illegal about this sort of trading. Is that what you are proposing? Obviously RA may want to distance itself from encouraging this b/c there could be some fall-out if a trade went sour and people could misuse this forum (which is really meant for exchanging information) to vent their frustrations. However, i too wish there were a site set up for trading of CDs or albums. I have more than one copy of several albums. I don't plan on trying to sell them on ebay because they are CDs that only roots fans would know or be interested in and i don't want them to sell for $2 or whatever because the audience for roots music here in the states is very limited. It would be better that they find homes where they will be enjoyed by reggae lovers. I also enjoy cutting out the middle man and just getting music (rather than money to spend on music) in return. I have about 5 or 6 CDs left. PM me if you would like to see if there are any items that we could trade.

Hi Mitchell.

Welcome to this site.

Interesting thread, but as Leggo says trading activities are not really allowed as it could create copyright issues that could in reality cause problems for the moderators who put in a lot of time and effort making this site the best around.

However, I can understand why you would suggest such a thread as I have said on many occasion that I have found it really frustrating spending many hours scouring shops and looking around sites for music and coming away empty handed.

I personally feel that, as a CD collector, there are so many artists who`s music just has not been given the availability it deserves.

Artists like Leroy Smart and Al Campbell have a superb catalogue of music through the late 70`s - early 80`s, but look around and you may find the token CD release.

This is just two artists but I could list many many more who`s music has suffered the same fate.

There are many titles I want to find and although I would rather buy a legitimate re-issue I have come to realise that the only way to get these albums is through the generosity of people willing to share and through trading.

If you can sign up as a member, then PM me what you have and what you are looking for in return.

Regards

Dave

The lack of availability of titles on CD is the reason I returned to vinyl.

I had started to collect reggae again, on CD.
I REALLY wanted a copy of 'In Fine Style' by Ranking Trevor. But it isn't on CD.

SO, when I saw it on LP I bought it. And a cheap record deck. Then my brother asked me to digitise his reggae vinyl as he wanted to sell it. So I bought it all!

That was about 3 years, 3,000 records and several record decks ago! Now I barely touch the CDs.
