Does it matter if it doesn't have anything that any other artist's work doesn't?
That's a crazy logic. Turn it around and you'll be saying the Congos have nothing Marley didn't.
Is Marley reggae?

No i am just saying that why enhance this text, when there are loads of other reggae songs which are rather similar to this one, in style.

Well said Jah Glu.Jah Glu wrote:No i am just saying that why enhance this text, when there are loads of other reggae songs which are rather similar to this one, in style.
You've basically just agreed that Marley's standard is the same as many other reggae artists.
I think that's the point many of us have been making on this thread!

No not really. And as said before i have NOTHING at all against his lyrics. It's the music and his voice i dont like.leggo rocker wrote:Jah Glu wrote :No i am just saying that why enhance this text, when there are loads of other reggae songs which are rather similar to this one, in style.

Re: Is Marley reggae?
Not so long ago, maybe half a year back, leggo posted a thread in which he stated that he was sick of people slating Bob Marley and claiming that his work wasn't "true reggae".
At the time I thought he was going a little too far-- after all, who could seriously make such a claim?
Well, now I know. Unbelievable.

Re: Is Marley reggae?
Marley, bad voice? Where? When?
OK, it's a bit croaky when he's about to die of cancer, but the rest of the time it's loaded with emotion, sincerity and feeling.
He was also a great live artist, and that isn't easy to be.
Maybe you don't get that, which is your loss.
Like I said elsewhere, if a big big reggae star stood up and said the stuff you say about him, maybe I'd give it some credence. But when a nobody behind a PC says it, I can't help but get mad, even if it is just one person's opinion.

Re: Is Marley reggae?
Once again. Chill out leggo. I am just saying that i dont like his voice. I.e. only a matter of opinion. And leggo since you apparently cant stop writing here (which is totally fine with me, seriously!). And what is it that makes you not being a nobody behind a pc, while i apparently am?leggo rocker wrote:Marley, bad voice? Where? When?

Re: Is Marley reggae?
I'm a nobody behind a Mac actually. I avoid Windoze if I possibly can.
I'm still writing because I have a stack of PMs in my inbox literally begging me to so. Thanks guys!
And sorry if I seemed hot, didn't mean too even if I am very upset about this belittling of Marley (who takes up less than 1% of my reggae record collection).
I haven't ever said he's the best, or even my favourite reggae artist. But he was VERY important to the genre, and he *is* the reason that many of us are here, even some of us who don't realise that. Even if you don't like him I can't understand how you would deny his rightful place up there *with* - not above - the very best of reggae artists.

Re: Is Marley reggae?
Why should i when i dont like his music? I think the thing with "would any of us know reggae if not for bob marley" is very complicated to answer since no one really know.leggo rocker wrote:I can't understand how you would deny his rightful place up there with - not above - the very best of reggae artists.
