the wife thinks that is basically all i listen to but then again she loves jamaican music as well.
my parents couldn't care less, when they visit us they don't mind if it is playing. i bought legalize it as a young teenager when it came out (vinyl) and at first i think they were a bit alarmed at the title track coming out of my room but at the same time were probably happy it wasn't angry music. at least i was a peaceful person then and despite the fact i was smoking herb behind their backs they knew i was staying out of trouble. and they couldn't blame the reggae for my ways so they left me alone. they even let me play it on their tape deck in their car when we went places.
my friends like my music collection. none of them are dub collectors or even havea lot of jamaican music in their collections so they are always happy to have me be the dj. and i dig that.
What does your family/friends think about your reggae love?

My wife hit me today for repeatedly whistling the Bedward Riddim...
We need a whole lot more of Jah Jah and a lot less rock and roll.

Bedward the Flying Preacher is a tune by Prince Fari/Singers & Players. There are 2 other versions that I know of. You are the One by Bim Sherman and Pounding System by Dub Syndicate but it is one of those catchy tunes which you can't help humming or whistling..In my case way out of tune..

My Wife also donnot understand it. But she doesnt hate it and dances sometimes to the music. But wont listen to it in our home nor in the car. Instead I need to listen to salsa in my/our car
but could be worse. Except for long trips :)then I need my reggae. She probably doesnt like it totally because it is kinda obsession perhaps maybe competition The others donnot understand it. Only my nephew is a retired collector who buys now and then a repress. Guess I really need this forum.

I'm so glad I don't live near any of you people who brag about the bass annoying their neighbours, sure crank it if you live in a ghetto in Kingston, but if you live in a street or a block of flats why would you ruin other people's lives by playing your music so loud? All this talk of brotherly love in reggae and of peace and of the world coming together and then there's a bunch of reggae 'fans' who think all that love and togetherness means subjecting their neighbours to loud bass, and before a thousand of you come back saying reggae supposed to be listened to loud, don't bother. Its supposed to be listened to loud in a dancehall on a sound system, not on your stereo in middle class suburbia, the message of the music is wasted on you

Yes Ziggy
My wife says the dread appearance of many of the reggae boys is off putting and a bit eccentric. She dislikes the weed smoking connection, but i dont specially like that and i dont smoke weed .
She dislikes the excellent sounds of echoes and tricks on nice sweet dub..but she loves certain Marley tracks eg Sun is shining.
Congo bunny i totally agree with you.I always used to wonder why my neighbours at one place used to play raucous loud reggae, it totally defeats the entire idea of reggae.

Yes Sean the weed connection is also bothering my wife seen I got a weak spots for habbits. But donnot snmoke it anymore. Mine too the harder the rhythms the more she dislikes a flute or Melodica does it more for her. Thanks for the chat.
Congo Bunny I too totally agree with you that is why I play it in my car. That will put the message out there.

Yes that was a bit of a rant about loud bass, it could stem from having to listen to a neighbour’s poor taste in radio channels all of last week, so sorry for that.
I was telling my misses about this thread, and how its funny that some guy’s wives like the reggae and some don’t. In her words she ‘tolerates’ my reggae, and to be fair I can’t return the favour when she listens to Motown, I can’t stand Motown.
She confessed to having Rod Taylor’s ‘Mr. Money Man’ stuck in her head the other day though! Catchy stuff this reggae sticks in your head even if you’re just tolerating it.

Hello Ziggy
Yes , you know when my wife and i are picking up reggae some place, eg a library, the staff may think that its her, a black skin Brazilian , rather than me, white, UK, ETC..but its just me looking for reggae. The heavy duty rhythms are not for her.
A bit of sweet Bob Marley or Mighty diamonds, and in small doses only.
Congo.
Yes my wife constantly sings Sun is shining by Bob .
And we laugh about Gregory Isaacs` classic, uncle joe..
"how can he be squeezing his toe!!" she exclaims..we laugh about it, a lot.
I agree with you, loud music of all types is anti social
