Funny coincidence, i just made a cd of all my most spine-tingling tunes (specifically!) for my dad who is not into reggae but is intrested (v mnusical man) to convert him!!

first up - ernest ranglins guitar solo in the wailers "where will i find" studio 1..absolutely deaaadly!! the tune is wicked until this part and then it just flies you off to the moon!!

next the end of the wailers " send me that love" - having already had my spine tingling all the way through anyway..bob sings "I need you today, need you tomoorrow, i needed you yesterday..." in the most heartbreaking way as the tune dies out

winston matthews - sun is shining (banana) his little scat at the end " i'm out to rescue, baby i fully want to rescue, of course i do.." nearly reaches the heights of bob..

for these ones my spine spasms through the whole tune!!--
red blood - vin gordon
congo rock - im brooks
7 wonders of the world - buster
rebirth - light of saba
hurting inside - wailers (1st cut)
our rights - defenders
homeward bound - honey boy

from the roots -
jah jah deliver us - keith goode
jah jah me on yah - cornell campbell
river - zap pow (the mix takes you so deep)

He did a cut for CBS in the early 70's of "Hurting Inside." Good tune, maybe a touch overproduced. His acoustic medley on disc 2 on his "Songs of Freedom" comp is spine-tingling from beginning to end. It includes a sublime version of "Hurting Inside."

dennise brown foot of the mount- the beginning of the track. With the flutes an cowbells dennis on the beat

Congos- Don't you blame it on I song. The whole song Lee scratch perry at his best.

Gregory Issacs- John Public- Heptones singing backup and the bridge near or after the two minute mark.

these songs give me chills and i can listen to them on repeat for hours

The one that immediately came to mind when I read the topic:

Tommy McCook, The Aggrovaotors & Tubby - Bongo Man Dub
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGQdUjFn3PQ
From about 1:20 onwards, the sax melody and what Tubby is doing to the rythm always gives me goosebumps.

One of the first reggae songs that I really fell deeply in love with when I started getting into reggae, and it still blows my mind to this day.

Another one that gets me, the version of SKin Flesh & Bones - Solitary Man, the bits with the High pass filtering.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5Wf1zKuVt4

These moments get better as you become more familiar with the riddims and other versions. You know "THAT BIT" is coming, then it comes.. BOOM (mind blown!).
Or you hear a differnt version for the first time with totally unexpected elements or slightly different timing or something.

slengteng: i've always thought that about the gregory isaacs lyric too. it has a real "second coming" feel to it, brilliant. also i love, in slavemaster, "but if i dont get my desire/ then i'll set the plantations on fire." it's such a great mix of spirituality and realism

Ok...

Junior Delgado "Away With You Fussing + Fighting" the intro where he says "......I saw babylon, stab my brother......"
Also the flip side of that "King Davids Melody" by Pablo. Haunting from start to end..

I find Tubbys reverb totally gives me the goosebumps, especially when your least expecting it, like on a BBC non-reggae documentary!! (for example) !!!

The horn riff on Dennis Brown "My Time" - beautiful melody indeeed..

Soz guys I cant give specific times and stuff, not this time anyway as most of my best stuff is on vinyl anyway.
I know there are many other "haunting" moments in reggae tunes, just too many to remember........
