Reggae would have evolved very differently without early Soul music.
Notably CURTIS MAYFIELD and the IMPRESSIONS.

So many of their tunes were covered by or influenced early Jamaican artists and singing trios. Just look at how many trios there were !!!

What about the Liquidator by Harry J and I'll Take You There by the Staple Singers. You can clearly hear the influence from the bassline.

Just a small comment on the Baltimore song. It is she that originated it (at least that version ... not the lyrics) and not the Tamlins that covered a cover.

Right Kal, it's a Randy Newman song that Nina covered in '78 but her slow arrangement is totally borrowed by Sly and Robbie for the killer Tamlins version.
