Super Ape is the pinnacle of his career as far as I am concerned, and return of Super Ape is a massive fall from grace (with the exception of Bird in hand, which is one of LSP's best productions) but then I can't stand LSP dribbling rubbish into the mike, I'd much prefer he sang for that reason I prefer Roast Fish, Collie Weed And Corn Bread over Return of Ape, as there is more singing. He can actually sing to good effect when he wants to. I will listen to return of the super ape today and see if I can like it : ) since so many other people seem to rate it, to me from memory this morning it belongs in the over rated thread

That would be Kung Fu Meets the Dragon 1975 - Marvelous and mad as a box of frogs!

Top 5 original albums, chronologically:

Blackboard Jungle Dub (1973)
Revolution Dub (1975)
Super Ape (1976)
Roast Fish Collie Weed And Corn Bread (1978)
Return Of The Super Ape (1978)

No doubt about it!:D

I'm with Mick and Congo..."Super Ape" is Scratch's finest hour.
Deep, dread and steamy dub mixing; wonderful vocals from The Heptones and Aura Lewis and some great Jazzbo toasting. I love how it combines and balances all these aspects and isn't just a vocal or dub or DJ album, but all three -sometimes simultaneously.

Blessings

The other one is Return of Wax, often underrated.

So my 5

Super Ape (1976)
polished Black Ark but so smooth and mystic and so well produced

Return Of The Super Ape (1978)
Raw mystic unpolished Black Ark

Blackboard Jungle Dub (1973)
Collection(Hard)Rhythm

Return of Wax (1975)(Early Black Ark
Subtile instrumentals/dub)

Roast Fish Collie Weed And Corn Bread (1978)
Relax Singing Black Ark

Thanks costarica. Eternal Thunder has been online since 1995! That's when I became a serious Scratch fan and decided to build a website in the early days of the web. I'm currently redeveloping the site with an expanded and more up-to-date discography, but who knows when I'll be done.

I got there in the end. Better late than never! Would be interested to hear your account of Scratch's contribution to the the Grass Roots of Dub album. Most accounts suggest side 1 was mixed by KT and side 2 by LSP but to me it sound more collaborative and unified than that.

That's just my two cents. Some of my favorite albums goes for the stuff he produced for other artits. The main post seems to go for The Upsetters LPs.But anyone that loves reggae should DEFINITIVELY get these five

1. Various Artists – Arkology (3-CD collection)
2. Max Romeo – War Ina Babylon
3. Junior Murvin – Police & Thieves
4. Various Artists – Super Ape
5. Jah Lion – Columbia Collie
