Actually listening to the samples on amazon now and they sound like really poor encoded mp3's, I can't imagine listening to that being very pleasurable.... I think I'm going to pass.

Compare it with the sound samples here:

They sound so different, personally I'd rather have bought a straight rip of a slightly scratchy LP than an over worked re-mastered version

What a pity

I can understand where you are coming from Rootsman, if it is an album that you love dearly then a bit of bad sound isn't gonna stop you from buying it & it does sound like a very nice album, but for me personally.....

All I was saying is that it seems like I am alone in thinking this is a good release which surprises me. And its a shame that people could be put off buying this CD based on the comments that are being made. Believe me over the years I have given away or thrown out stacks of CD`s that sound far worse than this.

OK, the quality of sound is somewhat below what you would expect but I don`t feel that it detracts that greatly from the overall listening pleasure. It has a couple of pretty good bonus tracks and like I said before at £12.00 is a bargain based on todays prices .

Its a pity that some people will always look for the negative rather than the positive and it seems to be the same old people who berated the “Sound Doctor” release and the same people who will no doubt have negative comments to make about the next Pressure Sounds release.

But thats just my observation and no doubt that is as poor as my judgement of music ;)

Hardly, I have bought almost every PS release since they started, but a bad product is a bad product, I don't care who released it, it's my money they want after all, and if they want my money for this product they need to make it better quality. End of really, it's nothing personal to PS, I expect better from them.

Edit: if people don't buy this because of what I have said then that is their choice, they should do the research and decide for themselves like I did. Personally I think the people who have raised the quality issue are doing the rest of us a favour... Like with the recent Spiderman anthology

"The highest quality" means "best possible". If only one copy of the original LP could be obtained for the transfer, it's true to it's statement if it was the best they could get.

PS also released a very rare Clancy Eccles / Tubby's dub LP that came from an LP transfer. It had some crackles and a bit of distortion in places, but it was a next to impossible find killer LP of a Tubby mix! The music overcame any audio issues.

It all comes down to whether or not your ears like what they are hearing, and fortunately we all have choices. But I can't diss PS for putting this out, musically it's a very enjoyable set, beautifully arranged and played.

Yes, long live Pressure Sounds!
I´ve got most of their releases, excellent quality overall.:D

The only one I´m not satisfied with is Lee Perry *Sound Doctor*,
which clearly runs too slow.

Hear hear , DaveK . It seems that PS are not to blame here , the "distortion" is not from their side of things , but from the original recording . Everything else on the suspect tracks is all in order , bass and mids all seem fine , just hte top end appears overloaded .
Personally , I think this release is an excellent addition to anyone's reggae collection , Tommy McCooks sax playing never in doubt !
PS .. For those that collect MPs3 , you will have the option to select which tracks you want , so stop moaning .... go get it .
