Yah...I'm not into new Dancehall anymore but I used too. Not because of the lyrics but the riddims. I mean Buju was doing Boom Bye Bye in 92 or so but it was on a good riddim and it blew up. But putting down others over and over can be tiresome. Back in early early 80's you didn't hear much gun talk or kill the chi chi man. It seems most dancehall artists albums have r&b or hip hop beats on the tracks to make it more diverse. I just want a straight dancehall album. Remixes are alright sometimes. It seems producers are churning out riddims after riddims...not many stand outs though.
I like dancehall from 92 to late 90's. There was lot good riddims back then Pepperseed, Courderoy, Hot Wax, Arab attack, bookshelf...etc. Hard bass pounding sounds.
Slack dancehall is popular at the dances...people want to have fun or entertained.
Then you have cultural conscious lyrics dancehall. I notice I only like this style when they redo foundation Studio One or Channel One riddims over.
So lately all I buy and listen to now is reggae from the 70's to mid 80's.

7-7 has a point, there is some bad attack in old skool, but mostly the vibe was roots with culture.

so i agree with ´bwoyrough......
i think its very sad...europe gets in contact with "reggae" in this way...
a lot of people even dont know the roots reggae comes from...
the singers use the name of jah to make war...and i think there is also big money behind there...
they give huge concerts in europe and stand in front of thousands of white people and sin ...burn them...
and the whité men dance...
they do not live ital...
so music have to be hard nowadays...in europe
it have to be speedy...cause the people today can not feel anymore..they need big emotions cause they lost their feeling....there slowlyness...the peace you should have in you...they cannot find quietness..
roots reggae give me so much peace and love...
they fight against babylon...with good words with good feelings...they are positive....
the"dancehall scene"a lot of them...dont wanna say all) go babylon..now they are lost there in money and war..i just get sad when they fight against gays and white man in this way...
cause they should not fight gainst gays ...we should fight against system and babylon in all little ways we can...
in my small live i will always fight against..
with a passiently and peace full way!

i just have to remind the listeners who don't like dancehall that artist like anthony b are much more concious than most of the roots singers.
there's not much racist songs in dancehall at all, sizzla said once at a concert to kill all white man in jamaica but has no racism in his lyrics.

...but who is the Bob Marley of dancehall ragga?
There is no artist with the sentiment, power and ability of Marley.
I am well aware he wasn't alone in his abilty and sentiment but Jah give him the power to get the roots message across to the entire world.
This is what is missing from reggae today.

Yes!
Sad but true. Don`t the youths want to learn?
Lot a dem know Reggae from the boom boom shaka lakka hippy hoppy corner. They want it hard, fast and loud.
Don`t have no idea what the real message is. They`re not interested cause consciousness doesn`t fit their superficial life style. They have not learnt from their parents to look behind things.
They really don`t know bout Roots, Rasta. It´s easier to switch on MTV with their brain switched off.
They know Bob Marley as a nice guy, easy to listen to while smoking their first sensi. But it seems the vibes don`t go thru. They don`t understand what they hear.
That hard core dance hall thing is a problem to the youths. They think..."this is Reggae"...so it really can be completely misunderstood.
Some cant`t believe to hear that JA toasting is the root of all hip hop:-)))
When I listened to my 1rst Reggae song by the age of 9 I loved the riddim. But could not understand the lyrics cause we didn`t learn any English at 9. Had to wait 1 year. Well, I always wanted to know what the singers were singing about. To understand what was going on in the music. That inspired me to be very interested in subject Englisch. Wouldn`t be that way if I wasn`t that mad into the Reggae thing. Then it brought me into Rasta. So my knowledge grew on my own interest. I always was checkin around to learn more. Cause of my huge interest. I´m now for 28 years in the Reggae materia.
But I don`t understand why todays kids do not figure out things on their own. All dem want is a ready product just like a ready meal for their microwave. Seems they only want to consume.
Thinking prohibited.
Nuff greetings,
