I am intrigued by the detail you describe in your sound. What equipment are you using?
You are right about interconnects, mine are awful and are part of the upgrade process. But, as you know, interconnects are a nightmare and produce often inexplicable results - like using a really expensive one and getting trashed sound!
I also now need to get some proper isolation for my decks. With my old, less sensitive set up my big old wooden table worked fine. But now, with a 'better' setup I can hear my footsteps coming through the speakers via the cartridge!
Right now I am using:
Sony PS-X65 deck with XL-35A cart
Alchemist 1st range amps:
Genesis Mono Block power amps
Freya Pre amp
I don't yet have the Bragi phono stage so I am having to use a Technics SU-911K pre amp as a phono stage.
and on test today I have:
B&W 683 speakers (nice!)
My interconnects are by Cambridge and I think they are the weak link at the moment (along with that wooden table!)
I certainly can't hear any engineers moving sliders though, now that *is* detailed sound!
I've actually disconnected the CD player and stored it as it took up room and never got used. Like I said, I still use CDs in the car.

Hi Leggo,
Before I start, this is not a"mine is better than yours" thing,O.K.!!
Right,I`ve always been into music, all kinds, not just Jamaican.I regularly go and see all kinds of bands. So I understand how music should sound. As an example,I went to see African Headcharge in London one night, late 80`s-early 90`s.Gary Clail D.J`ed and put a Sherwood track on.The treble rinsed my ears out!I`d heard this track on my system and always thought the treble was too harsh. No,it was playing it exactly as it sounded at home, which made me realise the system was O.K.My gear is no way fullrange enough to do justice to live bass, though.
I use a World Audio Design valve pre-amp with separate power supply, bought as a kit.My monoblock power amps are heavily modified guitar slave amps,at 150 watts R.M.S.My turntable is made from Cornish slate,2" thick, with a resin and slate powder platter, topped off with 8mm thick ali. plate, the arm is a hotrodded Rega RB300 with Incognito arm cable and a Transfiguration Aria moving coil cartridge at the business end.I am a machinist by trade, so I designed, built and made it all myself. It weighs about 4 1/2 stone.
This runs into a Musical Fidelity X-LPSv3 phonostage.CD players are an Audio Analogue Digital Audio Processor (which I got at a bargain price) and a Sony CDP-X3000ES, just used as a transport.Speaker cabinets again are home-made(out of Honeycomb ali like a racing car chassis is made from).Volt bass/midrange units and Peerless tweeters.Equipment supports are all home-made, out of heavy gauge box section.Mass, not flimsy, is the "order of the day".( Junior Byles isn`t it?)Cables I make myself out of silver plated cable and good quality gold plugs.Speaker cables also made up by me.
Mains cables are by Russ Andrews ( Classics ),an absolute must.Oh,and a mains spur, direct from the fusebox.
So there you go.I can`t afford to spend thousands on state of the art hi-fi gear,so I utilise my trade, skills and empiricism ,and most importantly my ears, to what I think is a good system.
All this is put to good use everyday,I have a very understanding family who don`t mind me using the above to give me my musical "fix".Hope I haven`t waffled on too much, time to get back to Scotty ( Unbelievable Sounds ),away we go........

Wow, that's a real system. I love the DIY element and envy you for your skills and facilities. The record deck especially sounds the business!
@Jah Glu - Thanks for the heads up! I haven't been watching eBay lately in an attempt to curb my vinyl habit!

Yes, and I bid 168....
I lowered my bid at the last minute because I felt crazy (and guilty) bidding 200!
I'll have to settle for the B+F repress!
