MP3 is fine until you go Hi-Fi and then the sound is awful.

The better the system you are playing it over, the more it exposes the limitations (literally!) of the format.

Perhaps it would be helpful to those with little experience of recording vinyl if we stated what we use to do it.

I know there are a lot of readers who want this explained simply and easily.

Or perhaps someone wants to write a good 'how to record vinyl to MP3 or CD' article and we could post it as a sticky in here?

Easier, is to download for free mp3mymp3... Its a recorder and you can choose your bit rate to save. You just plug your jack in the LINE-IN of your computer and record. Really easy to use and totally free, if you dont need to modify your soundfiles.

Easy mon-You got already everything you need. ust click on Nero - choose CD - Audio - Recording (the symbol with the microphone beneath) then Nero Wave Editot comes up and ask's for preferences : Samplerate is 44.100 ( CD ) and 16 Bit ( CD ) Stereo. Press OK.
Next comes Input-selection - choose Analog and lower the Input Levels to around 50% and try out how that works with the Vinyl you wanna record. From there it is basically the same procedere as with Tape Recorders. But beware. There is no DOLBY in the digital world. so make sure the Input doesn't reach the red levels.
When you're finished press pause, then stop and write the name of the Tune on the File.
You get a WAV or AIFF file then- his is exactly the same quality your Vinyl has 1411 k/Bits. I leave it like that and burn it to CD-R once i have enough material ready for back-up . Then transfer the AIFF's to 320 k/Bits mp3's and import them in my iTunes Folder. Sometimes i leave them untouched. Depends on how much space availabel and how much i like the recording.
Don't mess around with Edit or Click Erasing etc. all this will only alter the sound of the REAl Thing
