For didactic purpose, you could mention on the categories titles the period and the subcategories covered, like the suggestion below:
ska/rock steady - early to late 60's
early reggae (skinhead, fast reggae)- 69 to early 70's
roots reggae* (one drop(70-74), roots rock (74-75), flying cymbal (74-75), shuffle (74-75), rockers (76-78), steppers (79-81)
* Or with less datail of period(early 70's to early 80's)
dance hall (rub a dub)- early to mid 80's
digital - after mid 80's.

Well, the things that i want are:
mentions for dub albums or vocal ones, digital or not, dj/singjay or singer, the original land (jamaica or England or Canada / America / Caraib islands) and the style (ska / rocksteady / roots)...
A rating system sounds nice, but for put a comment it looks hard and it will be a great chaos about long discussions maybe i think, same if i agree with the idea...
( maybe a rating system and some another buttons to select with categories as "happy"/"hard"/"mystical"/"melancholic"/"space"/"meditation" etc etc can be kool, imagine, for one album you can put a star rating 1 to 5 by exemple and add one or more of this words selection. It can be a good solution if you cant lets everyone writing a comment...
Thx for your work guys, its a great job!

Nice. I would hope that these catagories indicate that you might include more rocksteady and ska in the database. (I've noticed a lot missing when I look up Prince Buster for instance.) I know this isn't your main area of interest, but in terms of research and details, it would be welcome.

White Mice, Earl Lawrence, Ranking Simeon, Michael Lloyd, Allison, etc. thats just a few, it might be off the topic but i might as well say it.

I really think adding 12 inches would have a lot of added value. Although I like the Roots Archives best, there are quite a number of sites with, like this site, album discographies. 12 (or 7 inch) info is much rarer and less thorough. Most sites are doing the same thing!
Another great thing would be to have (low quality) sound samples attached like on
www.princefari.com. I know the archives have audio copies of everything they put on the site. There is a need: quite often posts like "is this album any good?" pop up at the forum. It would also be great to have to possibility to get an impression of albums which are almost never for sale or only at very high prices.
Of course that would be a terrible job to do (> 4000 records)!
