Actually, I bought a silk screen cover version of "Never Grown Old" by The Maytals on Coxsone ref JBL 1113. I don't now the year but it must be quite old and it's in an ugly plastic bag .
I need some definitive information on how to tell if a record is a 1st pressing. I know enough about records to be able to look at the record and tell if it's the 1960 release (1st) or the later release in 1965 (2nd pressing). If i'm not mistaken, don't the numbers in the trail-off area dictate if the record is a 1st pressing or not. Aren't some records pressed several times in the first couple years? Ie. Johnny cash-"folsum prison".
Thanks

There isn't a lot of definitive info about first pressings in the world of Jamaican music - for reasons discussed here and on other threads. Check for instance the thread about Super Eight in the 'reggae discussions' section to see just how hard this can be.
You have to rely on a mix of sources of info, including asking on here. Labels, covers, matrix numbers, stuff like that can help, but quite often the answer will elude the reggae collector completely!
Reggae wasn't generally selling in the big numbers that other genres did, so very often the first pressing was the ONLY pressing. And as such it means that a great number of releases were only pressed in one batch of 500, making them pretty rare nowadays.
