@DonBanyan
very interesting. didn't know that. Of course they did 'Tide is High' so they were clearly clued in to some degree.
Was it a VH1 show on Blondie in particular?
I'd be interested to see that.

Heart of Glass is still a good one to my ears, though I don't have much time for the rest of the Blondie stuff.

and generally - absolutely - I agree with the points made that all colors, tones and moods of music are to be encouraged. That's one of the best things about JA music of any period - the huge breadth of moods, styles and expressions. Not really present in most 'western' music where artists are more rigidly pigeon-holed to their image as serious or funny or romantic or whatever. you can't do a fun song - you're a serious romantic love singer etc.

@Leggo - not sure about Perry Como - I'm more of a Gene Pitney kind of guy - yeah I know too modern and risque ;)

I think it was on the "Behind The Music:Blondie"
I couldn't find any video links to that, but here's some support.

Edit: I looked up "Once I Had A Love" and if this is the version, then I guess it never did have a skank to it.

Yes the lead singer is Moira McCarthy and she forms part of the Blood Sisters. They will be shortly out of retirement.

deborah harrys pussy was on display numerous times and it was not (harry) but it was well worth looking for.

she carried her siamese cat with her on tour and it could often be found stalking the stage.

the jam was moving.

Sad to say, but I got the Anita Ward 12" of Ring My Bell as soon as it came out in the UK, also YMCA on 7" before it got into the charts! I was/am a big disco fan too. On the wants list - Galaxy of Love by Crown Heights Affair (hoping just to find in a charity shop one day, don't really do the ebay thing).

"Ring My Bell" by the Blood Sisters has a heavy riddim and a great mix, what are you talking about??

I once overheard an old Jamaican guy telling the bloke behind the counter in a branch of Music Exchange that the original Anita Ward 'Ring My Bell' was big in Jamaica when it first came out. Naturally I have no way of knowing if this is true as I was two at the time and lived in west London. For the record, I like the reggae-disco cross over stuff: its good party music.
