Re: ranking dread
I first encountered Ranking Dread on "Bandulu/Hard Time" with Cornell Campbell. Whoo, that one is a killer! Also, knowing his history makes "If Nanny Was Here" that much more intriguing.
"...Promise me son, don't go and do the things I've done/ Walk away from trouble if you can/ It don't mean you're weak, if you turn the other cheek/ Some day you'll grow to be a man..."
I pretty much love everything Ranking Dread, but this one is, no pun intended, MURDER!!

I just wish I had a copy.

Re: ranking dread
All very interesting. I knew nothing about the man before today. And coincidentally, before reading any of this 'Love A Dub' by Ranking Dread just happened to come on my iPod. 'I'm liking this' I thought. Nice chat, tuff riddim.
Thanks Chemmy for the revealing if disturbing biographical information. Lord have mercy!

DonBanyan;
General has been reissued. In my opinion the reissue is also the one to get since it doesn't feature vocal on just one channel as the original did.

Nice. EBReggae doesn't have it, but I guess I haven't really looked that hard.
Edit: They have it on the B side of the Dennis Brown "Emmanuel God Is With Us" 10". I obviously wasn't looking very well at all. Damn, I just got an order in earlier this week too.

Just wanted to echo all of the good stuff being said about Ranking Dread. He had a really unique voice and phrasing. I'm a big fan of the Girls Fiesta album, and his take on General is a stone classic.
The 'most wanted' that just came out has some great cuts on it, my personal favorite being "shut me mouth"...
