Re: A Video to Understand the diff btw ONE DROP - ROCKERS - DANCEHALL
In the 70`s and 80`s there was no label for one drop - rockers - dancehall its a made up thing in the 90`s so they knew what to call things and put them in a catagory in the record shop. To pin point rebel music.
There was Roots - Lovers Rock - Rub A Dub - Then Dancehall. These and the new sayings were at different stages of reggae history.
peace

Awesome! All I had to do was register. Great video! A kick drum is worth a thousand words
I now know what rockers/steppers is...
..however this video created more confusion haha I had always assumed dancehall was a progression of deejaying and toasting with a less leftist and spiritual message; not a genre defined by the drum beat. So some scientist songs are dancehall songs!?

Yes, scientist is a typical dancehall sound eng!
As well as Jammy...
Of course you can give the name "dancehall to whatever you want.. but what you so call "dancehall" I would call it "ragga" or "raggamuffin". Note anyway that they all have this drumbeat!
For me rub-a-dub too, usually refer to a kind of deejay vocal, a 80s melodic loop of the vocal with little variation, inspired by the deejay style. This kind of vocal...

Even if as said, it was first used in the early 80s to describe the structure that I call "Dancehall" in the video...
For ex, Marley sing it in Bad Card... "Ina Rub A Dub Style"... *Real Situation* is another one...
