I very much enjoyed the Clive Field Marshall LP when it came out, because he was the first to record many of Brigadier's lyrics that at the time were circulating only on cassette.

I like some Wackie's productions, but often the mixes sound like there is something preventing the sound to come through properly, almost as if they are using too much compression.

There is a good video Biography on Wackie's that really drives home how much of a labour of love it was. I forget the title, but it's worth watching (I actually got a copy from a local library).

Thanks Nilo. Will have to check the dub version.

Tribesman Assault Roots Underground is great Wackies sound, how can I forget.

But on a sort of related note - that Summer Sounds video of Jackie Mittoo working on the riddim for Rocking Universally - just for the fun of it I sequenced the JM piano part and am building a track around it. I might even finish it some time!
I hope this is not considered blasphemy in these here RA parts
Nah, we let estate lawyers sort all that stuff out.

Oh and one more Wackies question: a very soulful tune by Leroy Sibles called this tune which is found on the hardwax Wackies sampler - does anyone have any ideas where can I find it on vinyl (7,12,LP)?

Thanks

"Now You're Gone" is yet another reason to collect originals. Odesn't seem like the Wackies reissue program is including 45's.

wackies:

my thoughts exactly. the sound is typically all mashed together with very little dynamic range.

Actually it does include 45's. If you have a look at the basicchannel site, you'll see they re-released some already: http://www.basicchannel.com/label/Wackies

I don't want to undermine your trading, Leggo, but as you can see on that page mentioned above the "this world" 45 has been re-released as well.. ;)

I rather wait another year till basicchannel re-releases stuff than paying insane money for wackies originals. Nothing wrong with collecting originals though..

Bless, Nilo
