peace is something I would dearly love to keep...it is in short supply these days unfortunately...

no problem Leggo - I know you are always about + + + + good vibes

Perhaps someone should start a how does the other half deal with your music obsession post.

Not me though!

Any reggae widows out there?

The list of great jazz musicians is as long as he list of great reggae artist.

Rather than choosing a particular musician I would say check out nearly anything on Blue Note from the mid 50`s to the mid 60`.

This label and it founders Alfred Lion and Francis Woolf were o jazz what Coxsone ans Studio One was to reggae.

And Rudy Van Gelder was the King maestro on the deck years before Mr Tubby got his crown.

At one time or another I have owned or heard virually all the Blue Note output during this period and it is superb.

A few personal favorites though worth finding are

Soul Station - Hank Mobley
A New Perspective - Donald Byrd
Jubilee Shout - Stanley Turrentine
The Natural Soul - Lou Donaldson
Latona - John Patton
The Sixth Sense - Lee Morgan
No Room for Squares - Hank Mobley
Mode for Joe - Joe Henderson
Stick Up - Bobby Hutcherson
Night In Tunisia - Art Blakey & Jazz Messengers
The Latin Bit - Grant Green
Leapin and Lopin - Sonny Clark

I could go on and name many many more, it is a truely great great label and Alfred Lion understood the musicians and bought out their artistic best on almost every album recorded.

Alfed Lion then retired from the running of the label in 1967, after that the musical direction changed and it lost its way imo.

But 1955-1966 truely wicked sounds were born.

hi rootsman
i totally second your point of view that the blue note label with rudy van gelder on the mix was the thing to check when it comes to classic jazz.and the list is not exhaustive:"blue train by coltrane "cantaloupe island"by herbie hancock "the kicker"by bobby hutcherson "footprints" and"speak no evil"by wayne shorter "something else" cannonball adderley "song for my father"horace silver"etc.."blues and balladségrant green

Art Pepper --Meets the rythym Section
All that latin syncopated jazz piano--Hilton Ruiz RIP sadly. Chucho Valdez Rueben Gonzalez

Chico Freeman

David Murray--Mings Samba

Billie Holiday--to cry for

Ella
Art Blakey
McCoy Tyner
All those bebop greats

How can it be solely reggae -it's either good or bad
Now how about a country thread --lets start with Mike Nesmith/John Stewart and Gillian Welch
