Re: Jazz !!
I used to listen a bit of jazz when I had time on my hands to be more open to other kinds of music. Very focussed on JA music these past few years.
Charles Mingus, Ben Webster, Django Rheinhardt, Eric Dolphy, Coltrane - but really I'm so far distant from that musical feel and style both in my listening and playing I'm probably not the best person to be answering!
I have a lot of respect for much of the real deal jazz and i expect I'll come back to it in future years...

Dolphy, (Donald) Byrd, Morgan, Brooks, Montoliu (and ofcourse Coltrane, Davis etc).
If you have a chance to see Groundation live, listen 2 the musicians. Once in a while they pick up a jazz groove, great.

Re: Jazz !!
I used to be a huge jazz head. Most styles. Everything from MJQ, Art Pepper, Bill Evans, Monk, Pepper Adams (love bari sax)Dexter Gordon, Yusuf Lateef, Roland Kirk, Lester Young, Duke, Charlie Christian, Cecil Taylor, Dolphy, Bobby Timmons, etc. etc. But it's been a few years since I really got into a heavy jazz mood. Sometimes on a rainy weekend afternoon a little mellow jazz like some Miles ballads and a good book makes for a perfect day.

Same here, most of the time! I was fantasizing. Sometimes I get lucky though and she goes out shopping or has some other obligation that doesn't include me. I should say "makes for a perfect hour or so"

No way man, I'm straight scared of my wife. She's 4' 11" and 100 lbs of sheer terror!!

Actually, she's pretty easy going, but if I yell at her like that, I'll definitely get my way for a while, but there'll be payback looming in the future, no matter how long it takes! We can usually compromise: she leaves me the hell alone for a while; I throw on headphones. It's all right...

when i was in high school, age 16 an older friend took me to Birdland-a jazz club in new york city.if you were not of drinking age you sat in a section called "the peanut gallery"on saturday or sunday afternoons.i was fortunate to see the classic John Coltrane Quartet-Trane,Elvin Jones,McCoy tyner and Jimmy Garrison.when i left the club i was speechless and my friend asked me if i wanted to come back.my answer was yes!yes!yes! a month later i caught Charles Mingus.my musical journey had begun.less than ten yeare later i heard reggae for the first time and i was hooked.Louis Armstrong said"Theres only two kinds of music-good music&bad music".Duke Ellington said"Music is my mistress and she plays second fiddle to no one". Respect,Love,Peace, and happiness-ras jah g
