but as a completist i think i order it anyway.

i don't know what they want to achieve with this series but without Pablo, Perry, Yabby You, Glen Brown, Derrick Harriott and Harry J this evolution series will miss a lot. i assume in one of the following boxes they still will put their own scientist albums from the early 80s ...

from memory "State of emergency" is ultra boring and more an instrumental set btw ...
seems to be a new business strategy in the industry ..Selling stuff in big bulk quantities....

remember for example..
Power House selectors choice.. (160 dancehall tunes.. on 4 discs..)
Mystic world of Augustus Pablo, (5 discs+ dvd )
Trojan - reggae chartbusters (6 discs/volumes..)

yes, it's weird that they include this. i am curious about "Rockers Carnival". Is that an instrumental set, too ?
I don't know "Rockers Carnival". I'll give you this though, if someone's looking for dub and they get State of Emergency, I can see how they'd be bored by it and disappointed.

I think the marketing of this series and the packaging makes me think it's some special definitive dub project. Looking past the hype though, and seeing some of what is being included makes me think maybe some of it's just as much a repackaging project. As Han mentioned above.

Intrigued as to why people have an *issue* with this series. I've just picked up Volume 2 for £10.41. So we get 4 beautifully packaged, top notch albums of very good sound quality with excellent mini LP covers and liner notes for just over a tenner. I am totally perplexed as to how that is a bad thing? :)

And yes, I already have Volume 1 and have pre-ordered Volumes 3 and 4 and will buy each and every one of this boxed set series. :D

i will buy them all, i think. i already have vol 1&2 and volume 3 is on order.

but for example the king tubby "Dub from the roots" (or was it "The roots of dub") has poor sound compared to the excellent moll selekta release. also "Dub serial" is not perfect.

the bad thing is calling this "Evolution of dub" and leaving out so many classic dub albums.

Well the series is showing how dub evolved so I don't see how you can have an issue with that. If it was called "The Most Classic Albums In The Evolution Of Dub" I think you might have a case. ;)

Just received Vol 2 and not as interesting as Vol 1, then again insrtudub is not really my thing.
Also the mastering (or lack of it) leaves a lot to be desires. Clicks and pops aplenty on Rasta Dub 76.
Shame they couldnt clean it up.
I await Vol 3 at the end of this month

Played "Rasta 76" from this boxset last night and must say I don't have an issue with the sound quality at all. The cymbals are crisp, the bass is full and I don't have a problem with the clicks and pops.

My experience of *mastering* out clicks and pops after recording from vinyl is that more you *clean* it up the more *lifeless* the recording becomes and that is something I, for one, wouldn't want. :)

I disagree with 6anbatte. I'm sure everyone agrees what a fine job Blood & Fire did with their remastering of vinyl for their CD releases.

Having had some experience with mastering engineers there is a fine line between enhancing and ruining the sound. But with the technology that is now available via CEDAR and other processes I think Rasta 76 could have been made to sound better than it does.
