I can imagine collecting label scans/images being a real headache, yeah.

On the sound clips front, I assumed that since all of the online retailers carry 30-second clips of songs (inc. EBreggae, Honest Jon's, iTunes, etc.) that 30 seconds must be the maximum length a clip can be before it infringes copyright (though I may be completely wrong about that!). And really, you can tell whether you're going to like a song and want to track it down just from 20 seconds or so, so it is worthwhile. But again, a BIG project - no doubt.

Re: comments/ratings, I suppose it depends on what kind of crowd go to the site, but Discogs.com is never abused in this area. In fact, it's all the better for having that kind of reader/listener input. I'd like to see this on R-A, too, really.

RKR is great! I used it a lot in the last years

I just make some search on the online RKR but i think there is still some problems.

If i search Shaka as label , the Jah Shaka records and the Shaka (US) records are mixed together and for example Beverly Williams - Sufferation is betwen the 12''. So i think there is still lot of work to do!

Anyway the project is great , if you add label scann and short clip for every tune , RKR will be the most usefull archive on the net!

If RKR need some help , i'll be happy to contribuite

I have scanned over 5000 7" labels & they are all over the net! shouldn't be that much trouble to get scans?
Guidance.

@leggo Yes, I'm working in partnership with Mike Turner and another new contributor. My role is primarily to build the website.
I'll work on a browse suggestion. Shouldn't be that difficult.

@Rootikalist So, the Beverly Williams record is actually on Jah Shaka and not Shaka (US)? If so, I'll pass that info on to the editors. Its definitely a work in progress.

@rasdragon Yeah, the trick is collecting them all and linking them correctly with the right single. We'll soon be looking at about a quarter million singles in the database, and that's a lot of label scans.

@Algoriddim

This is very impressive. The search by matrix number is a particularly useful feature.

I can only guess how many hours of hard work went into this incredible resource, and I hope you feel proud of this accomplishment.

What are the specific dates (in years) that the content spans? Also, if there is anyway I can help with this, let me know

i've run into the website a few times while doing random searches, glad to know it's now "official".

i've been using RKR for some years now and there's no resource i refer to as often, bar NONE.

~Many Thanks for the RKR database! Some issues I encountered were already brought up (Search function bringing up too many irrelevant items is one). One function that the CD-Rom had that the site lacks is one function that was VERY important to my personal inquiries into JA vinyl history: The ability to look discs up by date. I often would rearrange lists by year in order to find items from certain periods. Currently one has to click on every single disc to see the details. So if I wanted to find all the discs from Alton Ellis from 1969 it would be incredibly time consuming to click on every one & write the year down & then try to compile my own 1969 Alton list & then start doing that for every year & every artist, producer & label that I'm interested in.

~Anyways, it's just a suggestion as y'all are doing all the hard work!!! Massive Big-Up!!!

Cool. I can take care of the date issue.

I need to do some serious thinking about the search mechanism and see what I can come up with. I altered it so that it doesn't match on a songs riddim name (ie when you search for satta, it doesn't include everything on the riddim, only the songs with satta in the title) but the problem is that if you search for "africa is the black man home" it pulls up every song with africa and black and man and home in the title, and if you have a close or exact match its buried way down in the list of everything else.
