Re: African Reggae from the 60's to 70's
Thanks for this Chino, just the type of info I'm looking for.First some reggae tracks found their way into regular Pop/Funk/Soul/Afrobeat repertoire, before the first conscious reggae artists came along .I believe this situation replicated itself elsewhere in Africa.Manu Dibango must have been the first African artist to go recording in Jamaica, and bring that original Jamaican tinge to his music. This not including the Congolese guys recording with Lee Perry in 1977.Jimmy Cliff reversed this in later years, going to the Congo, recording with OK Jazz,Grand Zaiko Wawa and Afrisa International on the Shout for Freedom album. And the crosspolynations still bearing fruit till this day.

Greetings. Could some-one help me with the right name of an Ethiopian artist who brings traditional, reggae- and dub-music. I've heard it on radio just the other day and I think he is from a more recent period. His name sounds like sí-dé-aam é-rié, perhaps 'Sideam (H)erie' ? Thanks i.a.

You might wanna look up these bands which where popular in France, possible african roots:
Belaya and the Bafuga
(early 80's)(did some nice stuff, from a place called Clermont-Ferrandjan where ever that is, they did well in France)
Johnny Ozila
Kamille (around in the 80's)
Old Bang (late 70's+ early 80's)
The others that come to mind are Tiken Jah Fakoly, Alpha Blondy,
not sure if the link still works but this is a Best Of African Reggae video...

sorry can't help with 60's bands, don't know any, was reggae in african in the 60's? i can't see there being much reggae(ska) there in them days, I think the Caribbean(JA) and the UK was the only places for reggae in the 60's.
