i always thought (personally, looking lp's covers) jammy's changed oficcially to king in the 1999's LP(?, im not sure of the year) crowing of prince jammy.

i always imagine he await a prudent mourning for respect to his master, and otherwise (this is too much imaginative, because i dont know so much about) like a waiting to not be suspicious of the tubby's murder.

Go get the lp "Fatman present; 1st, 2th and 3th generation"
King Tubby vs Jammy vs Scientist ... Jammy the worst!
Jammy kill more then just the reggae scene ...
Come to digital ... Sly was using a Lynn drumcomputer even in de pre-digital age and we all love them drumpatterns so ... digital or not if the feel is positive and the lyrics uplifting then it all good!
listen to Tubby's Firehouse production like King Kong's Babylon, massive chune and all digital

Bless

some chunes we love some chunes we nah play but music can't be bad as it is powerfull & uplifting

to be fair, if Jammy hadnt done it someone else would have, digital was bound to come just as some people believe the transition to cd will come.
Since 70/80s humanity has been digitizing everything to make things simpler 'modern', its a shame but predictable.

When King Tubby was alive, Prince Jammy used to work at Tubby`s Studio.
After the King`s death the prince crowned himself the king.

Those producer goes with the flow.
They never stop invention of new sound.
Every musican or producer is looking for something new.
That is why Jammy is still there with the new genenation.

Digitalization is answer to Jamaica's economic condition, a computer needs no pay, a musician do need a pay, after all sound sistems were all about that, weren't? So I think we cannot blame King Jammy, he's no different from others producers, he produced roots and slack music for different audiences, I think the importance lies on performers that decide to jump on bandwagons, or stay with roots & culture, there's nuff 80's conscious dancehall (pre and digital) like the material from one of my favourites Mr. Bunny Wailer, he sang "rock & groove with me get up now is dancing time..." with no need for slackness, so in my humble opinion, is not the producer the important, but the artist.

Incredible that a man that produced mightiest instrumental killers turned that much his music with the digital technology...

Still, I know that some people are really fond of his early 100% digital stuff... and listen only to the 84-88 years that are similiar for them as the 70s for others...

jammy has never been a good producer before the digital era. his productions are not original. only deeply involved reggae listeners will give it a ear. even the black uhuru set was mainly based on the group's talent (suffice to hear what it became with sly & robbie just after).
jammy is a businessman, not an artist. his music has a dull feeling... wether acoustic or digital.
