Two lines from Gregory's SOON FORWARD always make me laugh:
- In the middle of all the conscious lyrics of "Black Liberation Struggle" and "Slave Market," etc. there's "My Relationship" where the Cool Ruler sings a 'letter' to his girlfriend at college - she shouldn't believe the rumours about his infidelities back at home. He finishes it with:
"With you, I will never be untrue...shoo be do be do be dooo" - Yeah right!
- ALL of "Mr. Brown" is funny (Gregory is Mr. Brown's worst nightmare for a son-in-law), but the best line is:
"So please [Mr. Brown] don't treat me so unkind, 'cos if you do then I'll explode your daughter-mine..." Believe it!
Lyrics - Quote some lines - funny, roots, lovers, your favourites or ones that make you laugh, sigh or cry...

My favourite quote would be from the King Sporty song "A year full of sundays":
Wouldn't you, you and you, yours
like to live a year full of sundays
no monday, no tuesday
no wednesday, no thursday
no friday, no saturday
only suuuundaaay
Amazing choir and propably one of my top 5 favourite reggae songs!

All of Welton Irie's "Rolling Stone" make me laugh out loud:
Me badder than the DJ Lord Sassafrass
Every night in the dance
Him a deejay bout ass
But dis ya deejay, you know he is the boss
You know this deejay at the top of him class

I like those lyrics too. I always thought it has racial connotations, Mr Brown being the half white/half black, that wants nothing to do anymore with "full blacks". "You may not think it's true, but I'm related to you". Well i'm pretty sure it's about race now I remembered that line.

Yes, Well Charge. I didn't mean to sound flippant when I said the lyrics make me laugh; I just love how he's completely sticking it to Mr. Brown - and with such a radical image. I totally agree that Gregory is making a very serious point - about race, about rasta, about patriarchy...Well Charge wrote:So please don't treat me so unkind, 'cos if you do then I'll explode your daughter-mine..." I always thought the line "I'm related to you" meant: It's too late, I'm already "married" to\living with your daughter (i.e. son-in-law), but I like your reading better.

"Remember that Friday night
When you stole my pants off the line
So please tell me
How you wanna make love to me"
"Going around and stealing people's clothing everyday
Oh please tell me, do you wanna be a cheater?"
but in the same time hes talking bout love ... she's a stoler/cheater lover right ?

And in the morning when the sun comes up
she brings me coffee in my favourite cup
tiddly um pum
pum pum
tiddly um pum pum pum
I used to hear the above lyrics many times, i feel it was Yellowman, on radio piccadilly, Manchester, early 1980s,on a Saturday evening. Mike Shaft, with his roots n rockers delight!

@ sean
these lyrics were written by Ray Charles, in jamaica firtt Junior Byles copied them for his 'Girl Next Door', and Lone Rangers used them for his big hit 'Rosemary' (not yellowman)and he adds the skatting: bang billidi bang pang, i think this is the version you are referring to
Ray Charles - Hallelujah i Love Her So
Let me tell you 'bout a girl I know
She is my baby and she lives next door
Every mornin' 'fore the sun comes up
She brings me coffee in my favorite cup
That's why I know, yes, I know
Hallelujah, I just love her so
When I'm in trouble and I have no friend
I know she'll go with me until the end
Everybody asks me how I know
I smile at them and say, "She told me so"
That's why I know, oh, I know
Hallelujah, I just love her so
Now, if I call her on the telephone
And tell her that I'm all alone
By the time I count from one to four
I hear her [KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK] on my door
In the evening when the sun goes down
When there is nobody else around
She kisses me and she holds me tight
And tells me, "Daddy, everything's all right"
That's why I know, yes, I know
Hallelujah, I just love her so
Now, if I call her on the telephone
And tell her that I'm all alone
By the time I count from one to four
I hear her [KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK] on my door
In the evening when the sun goes down
When there is nobody else around
She kisses me and she holds me tight
And tells me, "Daddy, everything's all right"
That's why I know, yes, I know
Hallelujah, I just love her so
Oh, hallelujah
Don't you know, I just love her so
She's my little woman, waitin' all this time
Babe, I'm a little fool for you, little girl...
