david1- the "from the heart of the congo" album? That has already been issued on CD and, I believe, was reissued by Trojan as "African Roots".

Return of pipecock jackson was since it was released criticised. Mainly by the press. I think because it was the first LP in which Perry took that new direction that he is still following. So it was for everybody a shock. On Roast Fish you still could understand the lyrics on Pipecock less. The music is nevertheless very good. Stop listening with the popreviews of that period in your head and judge it as it is. Most reggaefans would love to hear the Perry of nowadays in the 70' black ark and that is what you are getting with this LP. Partly black ark recorded.

Regardless of whether it is the birth of his new new style of dribbling nonsence into a mic or the death of his wonderfull soundscapes that peaked with super ape this album is trash. i love much of Perry's music but thats not a good enough reason to waste hard earnt money on sub standard music

Thank you for the respect and sharing your opinion like I shared my. BTW I didnt say to buy it soley because it is just Perry. Before you buy, you should listen to the samples or go to youtube.
But you should listen with an open mind. Regardless the past popreviews at the time that sentiment can be explained.
For me personal this LP is worse then his precesors and better then its successors.

Return of Pipecock Jackxon is 100% Black Ark. The downfall begins after this album in my opinion... although 'Bed Jammin' is horrible.

OK, here's my verdict, after receiving this Honest Jon's reissue and spinning it for a few days...
Side One (three tracks): Bad.
Side Two (four tracks): Good.
This is a really one-sided album, but fortunately that means it's very easy to just listen to the good tracks, and there are more good than bad (just!).
Also fair shout to HJ for excellent sound quality of definitive, detailed liner notes from David Katz setting the record straight on this, er, record.

They've zapped the interview snippets that were on the Black Star Liner LP, have they ?Geoffrey wrote:OK, here's my verdict, after receiving this Honest Jon's reissue and spinning it for a few days...
