"Junior, come back!"
"No Scratch, enough is enough. Just 'cause I have a falsetto voice, you cyaan make me cry so much. Forget about this new album. You coming, George?"
(George Faith puts out his spliff and walks away with Junior Murvin)

I'll bow to your supior knowledge on Scratch, Mick (I've learnt so much from Upsetter net) , but I really did think that Island encouraged Lee to be quirkier. Perhapes I'm just jaded by the current generation of white middle class uni students who think their rastas. They seem to be more intrested in the ledgend of the madman than they are in his massive contribution to reggae. I often wonder how many sessions he sprinkled with his magic before the whole Black Ark days even.

(1) great LP in any version ....i picked up the first mix (black art LP 4049)about 10 yrs ago and although its obviously rarer/more collectable/harder to track down etc, i actually prefer the more commonly available 2nd one

(2) as for sound quality (2nd version (vinyl) i reckon the blood and fire/simply vinyl 2LP version is hard to beat - taken from cleaned up original masters its got more depth than the go feet, the jah live, the congo ashanty or the original issue on black art (KLP 05)

(3) as far as scratch and island are concerned - i suspect it was scratch who was pushing boundaries and blackwell who became afraid that he was going too far and his bottom line would be affected...
