I found the Disco Devil cd in a local recordstore in the Netherlands. I think Trojan made a mistake on Disc 1, track 9. On the cover it says Roots Train, Junior Murvin & Dillinger. But it is definitly not the 12" version, as there is no Dillenger toasting. It is the regular 3min+ album version.

Amazon has moved the release date to September, even the Trojan website doesn't mention this release, so I'm really surprised I got hold of a copy.

Maybe they discovered the mistake and then took it off the market to fix the Roots Train 12". Some copies must have been delivered to stores already. If we'd be talking about an old Beatles record here, then you'd soon be a millionaire, sonic.

From the perspective of long time hardcore reggae fans like us, yes these seem tired and old, but Mick's correct that reggae re-issues often go out-of-print within a couple years or so, making them unavailable to the all-important reggae newcomer who hasn't heard these before. I won't get this (probably) because I've got most of em in one form or another, but plenty of new reggae fans will love it.

Amen. Were people bitching about the Perry box sets that came out in the 80s? Let's be real here, those are what got some of us deeper into Perriana. when those came out, sure there were a few geeks that already had all the original 7s and 12s just like some of us do now. And like Mick said, those sets are 25 years old now, out of print, and pretty low-fi to begin with. Don't begrudge a new product--it is the only way the artists see any royalties, if ever--and as such this one looks pretty GD good.

Not that I have any interest in this product. I don't buy any reggae CD that doesn't have "Return Of Django", "Tighten Up", AND "Double Barrell" on it.

I wonder what the future might bring to Perry fans. An excellent move was the Police And Thieves 2CD set, which brought together material from Island and Trojan. However, I noticed the Trojan tracks were the same as on the Build The Ark set, i.e. copied from vinyls.
An extended Party Time over 2 CD in the same manner would be nice.

The question is, are there still undiscovered or unused master tapes lying around ? With sufficient quality after 30 or 35 years ? Unless so, I doubt that further releases may sound better.
On the other hand, sound restoration resources have improved over the years, even the Blood & Fire releases would sound much better after 20 years of evolution of these softwares.
So, new releases could sound better, or not. Nothing is assured.

Like anyone but Perry is going to get paid anything for this and he's not short of a few bob is he?
It seemed to me reading Katz that Perry ended up being just as bad a payer to his artists as all the other producers were.

My point is and I have proved it here in this thread, that most of this material is still widely available, in some instances in many different releases, whilst tons of Trojan albums remain in un re-released, being available only by paying too much to a dealer or stealing it on internet MP3'

Trojan could make legit MP3's available for bargain prices thus making the material accessible and make money themselves and give people something to collect that is new

Like I said presssure sounds manage it, and trojan's got to have deeper pockets than pressure sounds

Hey come on - everyone needs at least 6 CDs with those tracks! ;)

@ Nickfa

In what way is the " Super Eight " a different mix ? The only difference I know of , is that the track listing is slightly different . ( NB. I haven`t got the newer re-release CD ! )
