What's the quality like on the dubplate-sourced tracks? I know that sometimes they don't really have the best sources to work with and they're limited in what they can do in terms of cleaning it up...Rootsman wrote:Panic over, picked up my copy in London earlier today and only a tenner
Playing it now, up to track 10 and so far it seems to be a truely great release.

Sound quality across all the tracks is excellent to my ears, certainly the dub plate tracks are on a par with the other tracks.Funky Punk wrote:What's the quality like on the dubplate-sourced tracks? IMO its definately the best release that Pressure Sounds have put a for some time.

JUST placed my order with Ernie B's... can't wait to check this out! Yabby You has been one of my all-time favorites since Blood and Fire enlightened me with the Jesus Dread set...

Unfortunately, have to say whereas a few of the tracks don't sound bad at all, the overall compilation could have been much better sound-wise.

JUST received and spun it through once... though the quality of some tracks may be off a bit, the whole package is fantastic! The tracks that I consider "off" have a bit of hiss / crackle here and there - but the overall tone of them is SO tight - "charges from the bass, knives in the treble"... It sounded SO MASSIVE in my car (and my car stereo is NOT great)! I think if any doctoring would have happened to those tracks, the sheer power of them would have diminished...

Just played my copy and the sound is as good as it can get! Wonderful compilation even though 95% I already knew.
When's volume 2?!!

Yeah, I thought that there might be a some popping and hissing on the tracks that were sourced from 30 year old dubplates (or from nth generation cassette copies of 30 year old dubplates!) - because there's only so much that technology can realistically do to restore a recording from a 'well-loved' source (it's not magic!), but this wasn't too bad at all. Certainly much better than that Sound System Scratch release...Marky Dread wrote:JUST received and spun it through once... though the quality of some tracks may be off a bit, the whole package is fantastic! I'm actually GLAD they didn't monkey with the dubplates - they are quite crisp and for sure would have suffered with any frequencies lost... As for the Scratch sets, although it was amazing to hear much of that material, but they did suffer quality-wise (now, don't shout at me - I bought them BOTH and listen to them frequently, and DO recognize the ultimate rarity of the sources! Just observations, I'm not complaining at all!)Funky Punk wrote: Yeah, I thought that there might be a some popping and hissing on the tracks that were sourced from 30 year old dubplates (or from nth generation cassette copies of 30 year old dubplates!) - because there's only so much that technology can realistically do to restore a recording from a 'well-loved' source (it's not magic!), but this wasn't too bad at all.
