By the way, did you know about this? apparently Scientist and Jammy had some serious argument because of the GTA 3 about the Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires album...

Yeah I read that Scientist/Jammys thing. It's a shame. Jammy's a lying dick. But at least a lot of people know Scientist's music through playing GTA 3. Just check all the commentaries on youtube videos of Scientist rids the world tracks. Many people seem to have gotten into his stuff and other dub music because his music was in GTA (illegally)

Well the Marley Family gave their "okay" for Bobs tunes being on the Tuff Gong Radio Show, but Stephan made sure one of his tunes got into that station too ;-) Don't know if he's a fan of the games though. Doubt it.

Yes its a shame I dont know if that ended right... The "fun" thing is that Scientist didnt know he didnt got the legal rights of his own album (with his name on the title) until the GTA thing...

Damian Marley got some collaboration tune with some get up stand up remix in the same station which was only Marley featured (Tuff Gong Radio as you said). I dont think they even played the game, they like their music to be exposed and to get paid if possible (obviously).

Oh yeah and there was a Junior Gong track in the "add-on" GTA 4 The ballad of Gay Tony (still the wickedest game-name ever imho ;-)

About Mick Sleeper comment on mixing reggae/Video Game:

I got my first exposure to reggae through GTA game, i think it was Vice city i dont remember well. What I remember is listening to 54 46, Pressure Drop, Chase The Devil, non stop.

I would literally start the game, park my car and wait for those 3 songs to come, over and over again.

I had no exposition to this music prior to that (expect the bob marley tape every parents have). I had no friends listening to this music, i didnt even know this existed (was very much into hip hop at that time)

Anyway, long story short, ten years later reggae is the most important thing in my life. I listen to it every day, i buy a lot of records, i do podcasts (so that may be another youth will discover this just like me). I read books about reggae, re-arrange my library to try and know every musician, every label, every studio. I do this every day, this is my life. My dream go to Jamaica.

This might or might have not happened without GTA. One can never know. But im glad i played this game and that it had a reggae roots radio. U can think of GTA as babylon, it probably is in a way. One thing is sure: playing this game has changed my life.

anyway, just wanted to share that with you. For me anything that helps promote reggae is and will be a good thing, regardless of morality or dollars.

@Balughetto:

Yeah that was GTA San Andreas, with Sly and Robbie as the Radio hosts (very funny). Nice you found your way to Reggae through them. This was where I heard "I chase the devil" first too, only knew the chorus cause it was sampled by The Prodigy ;-)

By the way... I never could stand these two Maytals tracks, still can't today. No disrespect intended towards Toots though. Just not my type of reggae I guess, dunno.

It is ok don't worry none taken ;)

I would say i dont like those tracks as much as i used to do , but i still like them if i am in the right mood.

For example, upon leaving mexico (spent a year studying there) i had an early flight my friends and I just went to party before that. Mexico aint no reggae country (to say the least), we went to a bar, crappy music playing, then some live band just shows up and start 54 46 ska style, they play it along for 10 minutes, they even somehow dub it, and i dance, and i dance... really a great, great memory, good music, good friends, good times.

Those are things toots can do. Get you in a very right mood and start singing. make you smile big time. Sometimes he/I can't achieve it, tho

What I like mostly about him is the simplcity of the lyrics, for anyone who is not a native english speaker, it is way easier to remember the lyrics and sing along.

Toots anthology double cd set is probably the first reggae album i memorized from the first bit to the last
