Well, I suppose I have to admit that I turn 50 this November. I've seen a lot of things come and go, which is why I do believe the pendulum will swing, even if I'm not here to see it.
Not to read too much into such a small sample, but some 18 and 19 year-olds I know are into ganja over E these days. Part of the swing-back? I don't know. I am disappointed to hear that a bong costs around US$50 these days, so there's the materialism again.
They are listening to Reggae though, so there's the hope. I also notice that the local punk/indie scene is adding Reggae to the mix. Third wave Ska has already been part of the same scene since the '90s.
"Time alone, time will tell. You think you're in Heaven but you're living in Hell."
I sure hope that works both ways. There are those brief moments when this hellish world does allow a glimpse of something better.
Peace,
James

Re: Reggae Revival - Will it come big?
Hi James
Back in 1979 we made our own Bongs - yard stylee.
My brother worked clearing a hospital that was being torn down. He came home to the squat one night with a big medical jar, like a homebrew demijohn if you know such a thing.
It had two necks, one in, one out!
So we put a tube, bung and bowl on one neck, and a bung with two long rubber tubes on the other neck.
It proved to be a very potent weapon so we soon named it the 'Wrecker'.
It even survived a Police raid as the Babylons simply didn't realise what it was. Maybe they thought it was for homebrew!
Eventually one resident who hated to smoke pipes because he was addicted so much to tobacco threw the Wrecker out the window and, well, he wrecked it!
RIP the Wrecker.
But I will never forget how the Wrecker used to mash us all up!
*sigh* The days gone by, eh?

DIY all the way! We'd use glassware from the chem lab at school to the same end.
Back on topic...
So I and I was thinking about some things 6anbatte and Bing said earlier in this thread and something came to mind:
Back in 1999 I was taking night classes to learn to converse, read, and write in Japanese. I was far and away the oldest in the class, with most being new to college or still in high school. Early on in the class the teacher asked why each of us was there. I had some boring answer about using it at work where we do a lot of business in JP. Most of the yoots had a very different answer--so they could understand what's going on in the anime programs they'd watch.
Now we all know how popular yoot culture from JP is elsewhere in the world, so this shouldn't be surprising. I like anime myself, although I'm picky about what I watch.
Here's the part I just put together: Anti-materialism messages are already a big part of anime stories. If this is getting through to anime fans, and the Reggae/Ska scene in JP continues growing as it has been, it may be that soon these same anime fans discover the music too. The strangest part of this whole idea is that eventually it might lead folks back to JA in search of the roots of music they discovered via JP yoot culture.
Okay, I'll take another lick of that bong now.
Peace,
James

I like the theory of the itza age by the myans.
They predicted thousands of years ago ,that in the year 1995 and for the next 2 years till 1997 ,will decide mankinds fate(depending upon the actions) and judgemnt will be delivered 10 years later 2007.
http://www.adishakti.org/prophecies/26_ ... htning.htm
anyway i went to this revival tour this past summer called legends of dancehall-carlton livingston, brigadier jerry, lone ranger, frankie paul, errol dunkley, papa michigan , peter ranking.
It was totally amazin in this small church hall from 1 am - 6 am ,sad thing was only 50 people showed up.But the preformers played and sang like it was packed.I bought jerry and ranger a heinken.
There is no hope for a revival the best time of reggae has passed.I like new stuff but the older pre 86 stuff is the best.Musical Historians in 100-1000 years from now will be selling lp from this era for millions(that is if our species is still about).

If that comes true, my great grandchildren will be Billionaires because they are going to inherit this lot:

Sadly, I doubt trading records will be going on then as humans will be literally fighting for survival in 100 years time

WHen you realise how many people on here are in their 20s, it makes you think maybe, just maybe, the revival is really on - NOW!
