The Wailers were a top band in Bob`s days. Why should he choose another band? I listen to Reggae for 30 years now. There are stillthings to discover in the music because Wailers just don`t only mark a riddim - they play like a clockwork.
A commercial marketing of the music is no sin when the message is honest and upful. Any other musician would have dreamt of this international career.
Check Peter`s disco songs or Bunny`s commercial tunes - no one blames them.
Bob is blamed for some so called commercial tunes even after his death. So what. It was his personal right to play what he wanted to.
This discussion is like -ism and -scism. If you feel able to play better music, feel free to do so. I suppose, some can`t even tune a bass or a guitar. Go ahead!

Bob Bashing? Thats like bashing James Brown for what he did for Black people in Amerikkka and the Musical road he paved ( ever listen to Sly & The Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix or Prince--they would not exist withoutJB)--Bob Marley paved the road for ALL Reggae artists to tour the world, make a living off of Muzikal Prophecy and ignite the FIYAH of RASTAFARI around the world...How can you bash a man who constantly gave and gave and didn't receive his due till after his passing in the flesh..? Plus, he loved Soccer--- HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY once said that "How can you beliitle a man who has passed when that same man has no way to defend himself"...Long Live RAS PROPHET Robert Nesta Marley O.M. Good point jason-
I think peter was envious of Bob, which is sad, How can you not like it when someone is doing well. That is Non-Rasta if you ask me.

bob playing with roots radics ?

as someone pointed out - the wailers were a top band.
known before as the upsetters or hippie boys.

imagine how lee perrys black ark recordings would sound with familyman on bass. no disrespect to boris gardiner, but ..........

i try to find as many 70s recordings as possible where they backed other artists - and there are a lot.
you can hear the difference - fams bass and carlys drums
are a pleasure to listen to. the real riddim twins.
even sly and robbie are only 2nd winners imho.

and bob had a fantastic voice. thats for sure.
and a charismatic live performer he was, something that most others lack. its not enough to come on stage and shout "Jah rastafari" or "Clap your hands" .........

not talking about the musically poor backing bands nowadays.

What would you say are the best non-Marley records where the Wailers do the backing, Mario?

and i don't agree with the Boris Gardiner comment. I think he always came up with very catchy bass lines...

well, there are far too many to recall at the moment.

just one example would be "Slow coach" by garth dennis.

you have the great Pick A Dub by Keith Hudson with Fams and Carly backing

Meditations third lp Guidance features backing by the Wailers, not all the tracks though

Lizzard's lp Satta I has some Wailers rhythms

17 North Parade, the cd with Clive Chin productions has some Wailers stuff

but Pick A Dub is exemplary, fantastic Barrett riddims

Yes "Pick A Dub" took a long time to grow on me but now I think it's one of the best albums. Great basslines on that one!
