Not a big film guy, but last week watched a couple worth mentioning -

'Come And See' - Eastern European WW2 film from 1985.

This is a weird, disturbing film. It uses some very odd cinematography, quite surreal in places. To me, this is not really a war film in the typical sense (Band Of Brothers, A Bridge Too Far) but more a meditation about how the circumstances of war change people and push them into places, both mentally and physically, they would hopefully NEVER end up in otherwise. The main character is very well acted, as the experience of seeing utterly horrific things done to people, places and animals appalls and horrifys him, but also forces him to find out what he is and isn't capable of. The last half hour still lingers in my mind - strong potent stuff, but definitely worth a watch. Not one to watch if you are looking for light hearted fun tho'!

And the other one was Transformers, from last year. It was OK.

Not actually a film - a food show called Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. The Jamaica episode was a really good one. Check it out if you can find it.

I just watched Roots Time and enjoyed it almost all the way through until it turned into some sort of Indiana Jones bullshit.
What a waste of all that good footage. As deep and intriguing as a Jim Jarmusch but probably less meaningful (if that is possible) - sadly. The music was all mixed up. I don't know what they were getting at - either musically or visually.
Visually very nice to look at but I would think those dreads would not get away with that kind of disrespect in then, now or future Jamaica. Waking up the town fi nah reason - ?
I wanted to like it and did for quite a while - then it turned to shit. Probably at the point that Babboo took a dump. Not the shit that bothered me - the total lack of coherence of any sort - oh you had to be stoned - whatever - but - pure non-sequiteur.
My humble opinion.

and if I can find Deep Roots some way great.
It looks like the success rate of reggae drama films is a sinkhole only to be approached by interpid fools.

Watched the first two installments. Very good and gritty stuff...I have been wanting to see this for a long time. Nice to see the clips on You Tube, but much better to have theh continuity of the actual documentary...

Totally recommend Black Cat White Cat- a very funny Eastern European gangster gypsy movie full of craziness and insanity.

shoguns assassin. gory but almost comedic japanese film, taken from the novel series lone wolf & cub. A sword/ninja drama about a rampant samauri seeking revenge for the murder of his wife. for the hip hop fans, GZAs liquid swords album samples alot of the beats and skits from this flick. being an 80s film , the soundtrack is hot! btw voices are dubbed in english, much of the dialog being simplified.
