there are some conscious dancehall songs i like, in fact the only thing i really don't like about dancehall when it gets into the gun lyrics thing...I am also not a big fan of slackness.

Ragga Shit is a bad word..
I am also not a big dancehall fan (a bunch of songs i like) but it is ok when there is a lot of material for other taste..

Age is probably a factor but not the only one. I'm 23 and I haven't found much new roots that I enjoy, although I do like new dub. Maybe it's because I'm from the Pacific coast, surrounded by Sublime and Slightly Stoopid fans...7 wrote:I find it really hard to get into modern roots or any of its incarnations.I am not saying i cant or wont listen to it-sometimes i enjoy a few tracks at a dance-but its just not something that does it for me.I just wouldnt choose to listen to it at home.I think a lot of it is to do with your age-the younger you are the more likely you are to enjoy it.When i was youngi was well into punk and still have a blast of it sometimes.I have heard some'modern'punk recently and that just doesnt do it for me either.

Yeah there is some pretty boring modern dub (Twilight Circus) but you'd have to be narcoleptic to fall asleep to Iration Steppas or Earthquake Studio.informer wrote:and modern dub - boring to the max, maybe good for falling into sleep ....

Twilight Circus is the boss sound. Irations Steppas certainly have an impressive stack but their productions are fairly rudimentary and they have a very limited output anyways. They are more a sound system than a production crew.kukuman wrote:informer wrote :and modern dub - boring to the max, maybe good for falling into sleep ....

Check out 'Twilight Circus ft Ranking Joe - Don't Follow Babylon' and try and fall asleep to that. That's without a doubt one of the heaviest and most rootikal tunes released in the last decade. Ryan Moore is a genius and if you're a fan vintage roots and want to see those vibes continued in the 21st century you should show him the respect he deserves...

as already evident, definition differences in how we perceive 'roots' will frustrate the discussion. so dealing with just the 'new' aspect of the OP ...
i love Nasio Fontaine's sound.

agreed, new isn't necessarily flawed and/but the focus of this site is on a specific era (thanks roots-archives!). i'm enjoying the thread idea even though, technically, it's impertinent.

you guys are looking for new reggae music in the wrong places.Northeast Brasil is where people look back on the gold period of reggae (73-76). but i guess only who lives there can enjoy their music, since it's not on the map like american reggae. listen an example:
