Fly agaric used as a preservative? Wow, that must've been an interesting buzz.

Ha, ha, 'buzz' geddit?

Nice one!

I feel a bit silly being the first to mention it, being Irish and all, but there is not a thing wrong with a well poured pint of Guinness stout or three or four...

Other stouts such as Beamish or Murphy's are no substitute.
One of those 'boutique' ales is very nice every once in a while but a rake of pints and the bit of craic is food for the soul

You have to say, Roots Archives never fails to astound with the range of interests of its contributors, we had Captain Beefheart yesterday and we've got Flann O'Brien today, superb stuff!

In my opinion (and I'm not alone) one of the best breweries in the states if not the world at the moment is in little old Santa Rosa California. When I can, I drive an hour just for a taste.

Russian River Brewing:

Barrel aged brews:

Belgian styles:

Pub Brews:

Truly amazing stuff brewed by a true fanatic. Unfortunately, it ain't easy to come by. And I don't think it's available outside the states at all (?) not sure.

I was a bit confused at first, but now I geddit. ha ha.

The pun was unintentional. I was just commenting on the psychedelic properties of the "preservative" 'shroom.

The article also said something about other herbs being used in place of hops. Anyone ever hear of cannabis being used in beer?

@DonBanyan
Cannabis and beer - a pretty poor combination - very debilitating!
It was a fortuitous accident that you used the word buzz then - no less funny for that!

Well the little I know about exotic beers - Germans do like to put odd things in beer - schinken (ham?) brau, the berry beers and probably lots of other stuff. But I dislike beers that go the way of sweetness.

Kind of like kids with a chemistry set - so lets try putting this in the vat. Mmmm this is good tasting beer - got a kick too. What was that you put in? Oh just some pencil parings, orange peel and cat hair...
You did wash your hands before brewing this stuff, right?

There are happy and unfortunate accidents in all parts of life, food not being the least affected by them.

We learn as much by mistakes as we do by trial and error

How about cheese?
