Disclaimer from me also, I was a bit late on the scene as far as Northern is concerned, always liked soul but couldn't claim to be a real Northern expert especially since all I've got is on budget CD compilations! (Except one Dobie Gray 7" which I'm keeping the b-side of under wraps in case I ever have to do a spot as a Northern DJ, very unlikely though...)

Funnily enough a mate who runs a soul sound (?) was telling me that he was at a club recently and one of the other DJs had all of his record labels covered over so no one could see what they were, although he had nothing particularly rare. My mate said it was really odd as he recognised everything the bloke played and everyone in the club would have done as well. Must admit that doesn't really make sense to me.

The acetates had the artist credit as Eddie Foster. The acetates were sent to Northern soul DJs in the UK. It was an instant hit on the Northern soul scene so 2,000 copies were bootlegged on the Soul Fox label.

Thanks for the info 6anbatte. I wonder if that means that when Tim Brown (I think it was) found the 2 vinyl copies it was already a hit. Anyway, way off topic but proves that as ever RA is still the best forum anywhere for talking about music!

Several years after it had been a hit on the Northern Soul circuit Les McCutcheon (who had bought it from Simon Soussan) sold it to Johnathan Woodliffe.Return of Jesco wrote:Thanks for the info 6anbatte. Johnathan sold it to Kev Roberts.
Kev Roberts kept it for 10 years before selling it to Tim Brown!
So that is the first copy Tim Brown obtained!

Meanwhile......
Motown engineer and archivist Ron Murphy obtained a 2nd copy from the owner of the original ARP pressing plant. (ARP's other 2 copies were destroyed when the plant was told to retain 1 of each record to save space!!!). Ron sold it to Martin Koppel (Toronto based record dealer/collector) who passed it onto his UK partner.....Tim Brown.
