Stick a Bush

"Every hoe ha dem stick a bush." The meaning of all that is "to each his own" It literally translates that for every size hoe there is a stick that size in the bush (or forest) for it. In Jamaica they use tools similar to a garden hoe. They use it to make a yam hill - we use it to make path. There are different sizes for different chores. So it can also mean that there is someone out there for everyone

Respect.

I think it's the case that non-Jamaicans can hear 'hoe' as 'ho' (i.e. slut/prozzie) and get the wrong idea about the song.

I hear:

"every hour dem a stick a bush"

I always thought that song was about being in a funky mood. "When I am short, all is tall, when I am pretty, all is ugly, or breeze don't blow the same direction..."

Whether it big or small
Whether it tall or short
Whether it bent or straight
Whether it pretty or ugly

I thought he was saying that "yes, I'd 'stick' that", cause every hour he 'sticks a bush'.

Hello,

Ketchy Shuby - Catchy Schubby

Catchy Shubby is a very popular game in Jamaica, see the links below:

I though it was about passing a joint around in a group...

come make we play some ketchy shuby
and when we shuby you feel ketchy
and when you ketchy don't make it **drop**
cause if it drop it will **pop**
and if it pop no one can **mend** it
cause if them mend it you can **easily bend** it
so we all go ketchy ketchy shuby shuby tonight
all night long we go ketchy ketchy shuby shuby tonight
tell my if you like it ketchy ketchy shuby shuby tonight
me, I, you have to ketchy ketchy shuby shuby tonight

it don't take too long to learn
just do as I say
it may only take one hour or two
but the next time you will know what to do

its a poor attempt at a double entendre i feel. all the words you highlighted above are far stretches for analogies for making love especailly when followed by "all night long".

thats why this topic has hit 3 pages! I know its a form of cricket in Jamaice but thought I'd mention the Jamaican woman here in the office has never even heard of it, but says the song is about making love.
