Re: repress haters
I collect original vinyl becoz it represents a piece of musical history that I may have read about in books such as People Funny Boy.Once you place that record onto the stereo it takes you back in time to that golden age beloved of reggae fans.It is still possible to buy reasonably priced original copies, just dont fall into the trap of spending lots of cash. If i cant find an affordable original i will go for a repress. I recently bought an original copy of Anti-Christ by yabby You & the Prophets for a fiver and when i played it found it was a different version to the one i was familiar with, side one was a dub with a spoken intro (yabby talking to Tubbs?)and the flip was a melodica version by Pablo.
I also find that most original presses even if described as "scratched" or appearing scuffed to the naked eye are made of that thick bakalite type vinyl/plastic that is pretty much indestructable.
Having said that, my collection also includes many represses becoz sometimes this is the only way to obtain rare tunes without taking out a second mortgage, so I wholeheartedly support represses too.
