I got obsessed with the track Jubilation Dub on African Dub Vol 3 after it appeared in the punk Rock Movie video I bought in '92. It took me forever to find out what it was, and even longer to find a copy. It was eventually reissued on Rocky One.

I was really looking forward to the bit where Dennis Brown is faded in and sings "No one can stop the righteous ones" followed by a massive siren. When it got to that exact point, the vinyl skipped a groove and it went "No one can stop....click....woooooo"......GUTTED whatever turntable I stuck it on, it did the same as it was pressed a little off centre.

The second copy I got had an odd fruit bowl warp....as soon as Dennis comes in "No one can stop....click.....AAAAAAAAARGH" the needle jumped out of the groove and flew across the label in the centre.

Yeah most records in the UK do not get sealed at the factory... any 'sealed' UK albums are almost always sealed at the shop. HMV definitely did that... once had a record that came with strawberry jam on the surface!

My incredibly weird and slightly funny story:

You know when you put the needle down and turn the volume up and... nothing happens, so you go: ah, right, the wrong input selector. So in this case, after a little herbal 'refreshment' I was in the mood for some tunes and put on a tune by Yabby You & Prophets 'King Pharoah Plague' and I got silence, ah yes, I realized I had the 'tape monitor' button selected. Naturally I deselected it so I could hear the record play.
And so, The sweet sounds of Yabby You came from the speakers and I let the music go for a while before remembering that this pressing had the labels on the wrong sides and it wasn't the tune I wanted to hear (it was playing 'Babylon Kingdom Fall') so I reached for the arm-lift and took the needle off the record.

I sat there staring at the tonearm, lifted from the vinyl while 'Babylon Kingdom Fall' kept playing in the background! My brain completely flipped, this could not be possible. Was the herb really that strong?? I did not know what to do! This could not be happening. finally, I reached for the volume control and turned it down... the volume dropped, turned it up again and the music came back! WTF was going on?!! It definitely wasn't from tape, as I'd never reecorded this tune...

Dumbfounded I let the music play on wondering what this strange experience could possibly be, a hallucination? Some kind of persistent memory syndrome?? Acid???!! Alien brain-zap waves??!! I was freaking out. I was just about to go get my flatmate when the music faded out and the dulcet tones of John Peel informed me that I had just been listening to Yabby You with 'King Pharoah Plague'...

LO f***ing L!!
What are the chances of that? A one in a million chance that a UK radio DJ could be playing a Yabby You tune at the same time I put it on the turntable.!!!!!!! Incredible. Naturally it never occurred to me that the stereo was set to 'tuner'. I've never been more relieved to hear a radio DJ in my life! :D

Once I bought a copy of Winston McAnuff's LP "What a man a deal with" on Ja orig. Top Ranking Press - or at least i thought it was it. Cover and labels perfectly say it is this LP but the music was "Revelation time" by Max Romeo....strange!!!
