Most Overrated Reggae Record

threads like this drive me crazy. who cares how others rate a tune. calling a record overrated gives the impression that the issue is with the tune itself, but the problem is really with the audience. a function of everyone wanting the latest killer that was unearthed on ebay or youtube or a mix. just look at the wantslists you come across, rarely will you find any uniqueness. Its a joke seeing a tune that was virtually unknown suddenly become everyones fav tune, most wanted record etc. One big game of massage the ego. getting old

A few days ago I saw that Jah Jah A Come sold for $200 + again and I immediately asked myself, again, why?

His voice does nothing for my ears - in fact, I remember when we found that tune, it was purchased mainly because it had a dub, which isn't that amazing either.

Then again, I'm heavily puzzled at what gets labeled as 'killer' these days. Many of them sound average at best and I'd probably wouldn't buy most of them for $5.00 let alone 40 times that amount.

and Bob marley`s "Natty Dread"

b4 getting so wrapped up in how a record appeals to everyone else, id like to see one define an overrated record...is it a function of value/selling price, number of people want it, how often it is played, how quickly it became popular etc? Better off just taking the tune for what it is and deciding for yourself. Arent you admitting how little appeal or value a record has in your eyes when you call it overrated? So why be so concered?

Overexposed is no better....you still run into the problem of pairing a subjective issue with specific qualitative or quantitative assignment. How many listeners before its overexposed? or once it reaches a certain type of listener? the rate of new listeners?

Music appeals to each of us differently, virtually impossible to escape the ambiguity that comes with this sort of generalization. Theres too much good music too get caught up in what falls short. Encourage uniqueness!

You hear people praising some albums, you hear it for yourself and you are WTF?! It's just interesting to see different people talking and disgusing about that. But mostly, it's just fun talking about music. And the other thing, you can learn about music you maybe don't know yet. This is not phylosphical or metafisical, it's just talking about albums, you think are nothing special and you can't understand, why are they considered masterpieces.
