Hi Janina,
Yeah I live in germany. Where do you come from? Daweh Congo is the son of Leo Graham former member of The Bleechers. Later he did some nice records with Lee Perry. Daweh Congo is to be said that his voice sounds like Burning Spear. A point I can't deny. But his lyrics and his voice is a little bit more fresh.

Re: Islamic Reggae
The sound changes from band to band; the band who plays reggae in a more traditional way are possibly Africa Unite (from Torino).
My favourite remain Almamegretta, from Naples, who are not strictly roots but still show a pretty reggae vibe: in a way they tried to mix reggae and mediterranean sounds, an interesting experiment in my opinion.
Then I have some contemporary ska/rocksteady stuff such as Giuliano Palma and the Bluebeaters, plus a number of oddities by different artists.
Would be pleased to send you some crd's if you like.

Re: Islamic Reggae
Basically they sing in italian: Almamegretta sing in Naples dialect, some other bands from southern Italy sing in their own dialect.
No, don't think they're rastamen. I don't know, I don't mind about that.
If you give me your address I will do the honorable thing. Feel free to contact me at my personal e-mail address.

Re: Islamic Reggae
this is obviously interpretation,if it is about the religion of the artist, then jimmy cliff would be the most famous exponent, coming from the geographical region, the above mentioned Big Men,Reggae meets Rai,is great, also Khaled, the Rai Superstar, recorded some reggae tracks in Jamaica for his Sahra album, then there is the French based band Gnawa Diffusion as well as Badawi on Roir Records doing Middle Eastern-Dub fusions, but I tink my all time favorite "Islamic" reggae track must be from Sudan by Rasha, and can be found on the Putumayo collection,Reggae round the World. Re: Islamic Reggae
WOW, i see this thread just now and im really confused about how some ppl see the Islam close to the Rasta philosophy!
A "true" Rasta is for me a guy who live out of Babylon in the nature and eating only plants.
You all who can read it: you ARE Babylonians, as me...
Remember what Bob Marley told in end of his life: "A day im going to hide me in some Ethiopian forest and nobody will hear of me more!"(not exact translation)
Then a pure Rasta is a peace guy living in harmony with the nature, who use nothing of Babylon, who dont kill animals or humans, and who refuse to participe of our society.
No one religion can be compared to it!
Its not cause some roots singers are Muslim that pretend the Islam close to it is a good argument...
Peace
(my vision about the Roots singers and band is that they are "weaks" rastas who are maybe in a good way for being true ones and who show us where to go...)
