About the Roots Archives

The purpose of this website is to bring you a comprehensive and searchable database of Jamaican Roots Reggae Albums from 1970 to 1985.

You'll find here:

  • album info (recording date, producer, tracklisting, backing band, recording studios, engineers/mixers)
  • album covers
  • a search tool browsing all available information
  • internet links

Our site is a completely free source of information for all reggae lovers and collectors. Please note that we do not sell or trade anything, nor do we make any money from this website.

As an ongoing project this website will always be changing, our database is continually growing, new covers are added weekly etc...

Collectors will find that some discographies are incomplete. For the time being we prefer to update the website with albums we can hear and check. If you require complete discographies please check Discogs. Take a look at the links on artists pages as well, they may be helpful for a more complete search.

Please also note that we don't plan to cover reggae areas other than 1970-85 which is our personal favourite.
