Back in about 1980 I was walking along carrying about 30 LPs and 12s in a shoulder bag. Ground was frozen, slipped on the ice and landed with my elbow down on the bag, cracked EVERY record in the bag clean in two.
Lesson: When vinyl gets really cold, it gets really brittle you know...

Re: Any SAD vinyl related experiences?
Maybe 2 years ago I purchased via US-Ebay a very old 1965 Ska LP "Skarama" on the Kentone Label from a jamaican guy.
I was a bit curious as I never bought from the island before but the record looked very good and price was ok. So I took it. I waited for a long time and already feared that the record would never come. I mailed with the seller and must admit that I started to be a bit suspicious. Some days later the seller mailed me and said the record returned to Ja. He sent me a picture of it and it was obviously (stamped) that it was already at my local postoffice in Germany but they didn't manage to send me an info to collect it. The Ja guy was very friendly and sent it again. Some weeks later it arrived and I was very exited when I opended the package - what a journey : JA - Ger - JA - Ger....but the record was broken on this 50000km trip.
At least the post refunded my money as they accepted their fault - but the record is destroyed. This is especially hard as it looked at least EX and I have never seen it again....

Since someone mentioned crime earlier.
I got into abit of trouble some years back now, the outcome was inevitably gona be custodial so I left my flat (plus many items) under the control of someone i THOUGHT i could trust.
How wrong i was. upon release, over several weeks, maybe months of diggin thru the crates so to speak i start to notice certain records are missing.
My hearts racing, bloods pumping not to mention adrenalin!! Looking hi, lo, here + there just to be sure i havent placed them elsewhere - caant find 'em.
I find out later there had been partys at my flat, uninvited guests and what not going on. Turns out the guy had been selecting (indiscriminately) and sellin my tunes for 50p a throw to the local market vinyl trader!!
I found several of my vinyls in his shop and he kindly returned them to me no charge, but these 1's were just cabbage and not sensi! if u get my drift. All mi reggae dem GONE!!
Ironically a couple mths later or so I was chillin with an old boy who had a decent size chunk of 12s, 10s and acetates/dubplates sitting in his spare room doin nutten. I tried to negotiate some kind of deal with the ol dread and offered good deal, but the guy was just actin ...

... the guy was just actin like i was causin him a headache for his tunes (poor old man!) so i just gave up on that plan.
All the while in my head, im thinking of what happened to my records weeks earlier getting stolen and that, and i'll be honest man, the temptation AND nuff opportunity was there for me to just slip out of there with a criss full cocoa basket!! But being who I am, I&I dont deal with stealing and dem tings, so i jus lef the ol boy wid im tune dem and gwaan.
Forward a couple of weeks, if that many. I man Go to chek the ol man again (hes a known 1 in my community still). I find out dat hes sold the collection. For peanuts as well. To the same market trader. ANd u know these traders, they take the best out and stock the mediocre + common stuff. Man sometimes i say to myself i should have just tek dem and gwaan!!
Cos i was a 2 time loser that time there!! And still havent replaced the majority of what was taken frm my lot...
hope i didnt take up too much of your time and space, bless up

Re: Any SAD vinyl related experiences?
After the rise of cd's and mp3's i stupidly gave away my entire record collection to a flatmate when i moved out. Dear lord what was i thinking, the collection included an original of jimmy rileys rydim driven, one of my all time feel good records.

I got a Dub Judah single in the post and in my haste to open it decided to use a stanley knife to open the packaging, in doing so i cut through the cardboard but also sliced the record as well. I wont be doing that again in a hurry.
