this is something you've probably all heard quite a bit. after a vocal sample plays the DJ shouts "not true" or "not you" or something like that
what is it they are saying and what does it mean?

Re: "not true"
"nuh true?" as in, "is it not true?" - kind of a punctuation/affirmation of what has just been said.

Re: "not true"
maybe you're thinking of the phrase "nuh true?", which translates to "isn't that right?" or "know what i mean?" or that kind of sentiment.

Re: "not true"

this is probably something I should have figured out years ago, considering how much reggae/dancehall I listen to

Re: "not true"
On the Lee Perry song Captive he uses 'Not True' as a counterpoint to say NOT all are captives i.e. he is free, at least in mind
'Every black woman and black man and black child down here is a captive
[Not True!]
Every black man and black woman and black child in the western hemisphere is a captive
Down Here
Is a captive'
Dub On!
