The Drum in Birmingham will be hosting a 'Best Of' The Jamaican Reggae film Festival this July 8th+9th as part of the reggae film festivals 'Best Of' tour.
As first stop of the tour 2 brand new films will have their European Premier starting with the much talked about documentary 'Reggae in the Ruff' which is shot in full HD by American film director Don McConnell who has made films for the likes of National Geographic, PBS.
This is a unique film focusing on a group of Rasta musicians living in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, this film is their true story which gives great insight into their Rasta philosophy and way of life. The film was first previewed in Jamaica last year at the Reggae Film Festival and the crowds reaction was unlike any we'd seen before, the film was loved by all who attended that night. We're hoping for the same reaction in the UK.
Also premiering will be the feature film 'A Dance For Grace' and we are happy to have the films director Orville Matherson and some of the dancers from the film flying in from Jamaica and Sweden for the UK opening of this great new feature film.
We also have Connie Bell of the Roots Manuva Banana Klan who has worked with the likes of Lee Perry, Toots and many more, she will be performing some dub poetry between films.
The following saturday there will be a FREE Reggae Festival 'Simmer Down' with Ken Boothe headlining along with many others and a ticketed evening gig with Ken Boothe, Barry Biggs, Naturalites plus many others. The gig will be televised on SKY TV.
If your around London on the 17th checkout the FREE reggae festival in Brockwell Park, Brixton for a amazing all star line up Reggae Festival, Luciano, Johnny clarke, Horace Andy plus loads more....
