After reading the excellent article, "Four Aces, Phebes & London's Forgotten Venues", I realised that the Roy Shirley gig described in it is the same one posted in the youtube clip about a month ago by robItheselector. Check it out.

I use to rave there in the 70's. As I remember Count Shelly was the resident sound. He played there until Sir Coxsone took over when Shelly went onto other things, his record label and the Third World record shop on the corner of High Road, West Green Road, Tottenham. I remember a couple of sound clashes there with Coxsone and Shaka around the mid 70's. I liked Shelly, always played some tuff tunes and I don't think many sound systems would have run him off about that time, he always had good competition around Tottenham and Stoke Newington from Fatman HiFi and Sir Dee's!

Hi,

My sound Jah Whitey use to the play there. I think it was early 80s.

We were resident there on Sundays for a while and then on Fridays.

We use to have a guest sound every week with us, although i ccan't remember now all of the sounds that we played with.

I can remember that the vibes was good and lots of reggae artist passed through i remember people like Junior Reid, Little John Billy BOY O and Ranking Dread just to name a few.
