- African Head Charge : Akwaba (tough African reggae, very good sound)
- Yabby You :Beware Dub (one of the best dub albums ever with scully playing kette drum high in the mix, wich is rarely done)
- Lee Perry presents ... African Roots featuring Seke Molenga & Kalo Kawongolo at the Black Ark (2 Zairean Soukous musicians in Kingston, late 70s)

Re: best percussion albums
I really love tracks that have a nice strong kete drum right the way through, not in a more "disjointed" traditional niyahbinghi style (though I also love that), but just pure rhythm. I mean, bongo Herman drum versions are more what I would call "tradional niyahbinghi" than "straight rhythm accompaniment" , but say Skully over Radics riddims is more "constant" (for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebehjh2kE2c) or the Glen Brown Lambsbread riddim.
Any albums that feature a lot of the type of drumming I'm talking about?

Re: best percussion albums
Does anyone know is the talking drum what makes the sound like a metal basin full of water being hit (which you can throughout Mabrak album) or is that King Tubby doing something with the desk?ton1 wrote:Mabrak is a total killer album, musicians use talking drums, a typical west african instrument and as far as i know, there is no other reggae album using it.

Re: best percussion albums
Great album, but Reggaepedia is wrong with the record date 1978. In fact the real first pressing on Jigsaw JS 005 was issued as early as 1976.kalcidis wrote:It is reggae with percussion. It is a great (and terribly rare) set. Read more about Mabrak here;

RA lists only the 2nd press on the Different label. That one came out in 1978.
