Java Java Java Java Dub

Post by Funky Punk »

Thoughts on this?

I got the recent VP remaster today and I've just been listening to it.

It's one of those 'early dub' records where there's little in the way of studio trickery - sounds like ET has mainly stripped the vocals and turned the bass knob up.

Really good though - sounds heavy, but crisp at the high end, if you know what I mean. Drums snap and guitars chink...

There's a dub to Junior Byles' 'King of Babylon' on there - that song has an awesome bassline.

Oh, this is a compilation not an album. Compiled in 1989. One of the earliest dub album (if you even call it dub) is "Java Java Java Java". The one which you are referring to is "Java Java Dub" its not the same thing.

@ jp

Was recommended this CD by Rootsman Dave , had it as a rip previously . Nice to get a clean copy , without the pops and crackles . Informative liner notes as well (tu) . Go for it , it`s at a good price too !

Edit : Same one as Funky Punks` post below !

java java java java - one the first and rarest - makes it of course on the strength of the rhythms - and for some of us and on Errol Thompsons ability to think on his feet with very basic equipment to produce a long lasting take on classic rhythms

this was reissued a few yrs ago out of the US on above rock/impact - remixed and taken from the original masters it sounded great

has some tracks in common with the 1989 issue which was a UK issue and dubbed from disc from the sound of it - but equally essential in its own way....

Just to clarify, I'm talking about 'Java Java Java Java' - this one:

[cover=3077,3475]

For some reason, I thought that there was a 'dub' in the title. It's been reissued on CD recently.

I just got this on vinyl and I'm not sure if it's supposed to sound this way, but it's pretty muddy sounding, the bass distorts quite a bit too. Great music, though!

Original press of "Java Java Java Java" on Impact label sounds very good. Crisp bass and almost crystal-clear highs.
If not, then something with your copy must be wrong. Too much groove wear, I guess.
